Just so you know I talked about that too, however I deleted my post as I was unsure on what I said. Basically I don't like getting into this kind of conversation on what is considered racist and what is not. But if I had to: with here they probably thought it was fine because they didn't add like huge lips to Ash. However OLM didn't realize just painting a non-black persons face black in general would be viewed as racist. And then on top of that having him act like a monkey, in their minds it was just this kid playing as a Pokémon. It was supposed to be an innocent, fun and cute idea, unfortunately it is not viewed as so when it's a Passimian. Lucky for TPCI this was a filler episode, well unless those Passimian return, then they will need to work around it. This was for the best, because even if it does not contain the full on features of black-face, there is a chance parents who end up watching this episode with their child and saw all of that would write angry letters of complaints to Disney XD and/or TPCI for "showing something so racist". It certainly didn't help that Disney was involved in a racial controversy earlier this year. Their response was to cancel the show the perpetrator starred in (yes, I know it was ABC that did that, but they're owned by Disney, so Disney's involvement in this is by proxy). Not to mention their pre-70s material had a lot of racial stereotypes that they're trying to sweep under the rug. Disney's got every right to go full damage control.
Anyway...
Turning Heads and Training Hard!
I'm hearing a bit of Clemont (Michael Liscio Jr.) in Ilima's voice.
Interesting to see a nobody like Tupp be given something of a backstory. Though really, there are better ways to deal with "losing his glory days." Popularity isn't everything. Ah, but there's no point telling that to one with a huge ego. Anyway, it was funny seeing said ego be humiliated once again, and good to see Eevee's true power.
You know, just once, I'd like to see a Fire-type swim. Just because Water-type attacks are super effective, that doesn't mean water itself is acid to Fire-types (or any other type weak to water).
OMG, that adorable theme Serena's Eevee had back in XY returned in this episode and became the theme for Ilima's Eevee! And when notes of it made into the Evoboost music, instant win!. Ed Goldfarb truly is a Pokemon anime music genius. I'll say that as much as I must.
This was a very enjoyable one for sure.

In the original, Japanese, version Tupper (Tupp) actually wanted revenge on Ilima for stealing his "irreplaceable luck with the ladies".
Also due to the previews never being dubbed, I need to reveal here that Tupp's Salandit is male, so the funny thing is it can't evolve.

"Smashing with Sketch!"
I'm still not over the terrible memory of what happened last time ping-pong was played on this show. But it's nice to see how Ash, despite not remembering the game fully, has a faint memory of playing it before. Even the JP version forgot about that (yet another thing to add to the ever-growing list of shit wrong with that version).
I'm always happy to see a Pokemon on my favorite of each type chart make an appearance in the show. Case in point: Mienshao, my favorite fighting-type. But man, I don't approve of making him into a total joke of an opponent. I mean, I wouldn't have wanted him and his dickhead trainer to win, but at least put up an actually effortful fight.
I can tell whoever voiced Ikari was having the time of his life. Definitely one of the most enjoyably loud performances all season. See, if the JP VAs could act like that (that is, not being indiscriminately loud or indiscriminately quiet), that's be a serious problem with it solved.
Ilima was better in the games, I must say. The show just has him in a usual life coach-like role, and it really didn't work out.
It's weird. I'd normally complain about this show using dramatic music for something not serious, but somehow, this episode pulled it off on the Lillie vs Sophocles match. Even the retention of the SM Trainer Battle theme was a good choice (though that theme's not as serious-sounding as the aforementioned track). But then...that bit of the Totem Battle theme had to break the winning streak... Damn it, Mima. And damn it, Gopal. Thankfully it got better in the final match.
This was a very fun one, all things considered, and a good one to end the summer block on. Next week, the dub schedule is back to Saturday mornings.

Love at First Twirl!
I faintly remember hearing Poipole's JP voice in a Twitter clip once, and what a shock, it was terrible. Another one to add to the list of JP voices that blitzkrieg the ears. His dub voice is so much more adorable than it has any right to be. He sounds like an alien baby, which is basically what he is.
Having a fleeting knowledge of SNL causes me to find TR's "purple conehead" line funny. And so too was the moment Ash learned the struggle of real-world Pokemon players trying to catch Legendaries in the days of 3/255 catch rates.
Oh damn it all to Hell, I thought I was free from top-tier Mimaisms for a while. What was up with that snippet of the Title Screen theme appearing for no reason at all?? Why did Mr. Gopal let that one in??? At least the Wild Battle theme made sense. Other than that, the music was nothing spectacular.
This was a cute one, a good one to mark the dub's return to the usual Saturday morning schedule.

Real Life...Inquire Within!
I'm detecting some shade from that title. Anyway...
And look at that! An episode with provocative content that the dub didn't skip! TPCi not being the illogical cowards its haters brand them as? Who would've thought, huh?! Anyway...
Ash forgot what those face masks are for, it seems, despite being from a region based on a region from the country that uses those masks for prevention of virus spreading.
Going back to that provocative content I mentioned earlier, I wish the dub cut out that upskirt shot of Ash. That really creeped me out, especially after learning what I did from that big tirade Suede went on in his Worst Kanto episodes video (seriously, go watch it; it's informative even though the subject matter is severe).
Hey, they called the correct thing lotion this time.
Okay, Q-tips saving the day is hilarious. So much for "never stick a Q-tip in an orifice."
Once again, the music was nothing spectacular. No Mimaisms (thankfully), but also no standouts.
This episode could've been better, but it was fun enough. Now let me go MIB that upskirt shot the fuck out of my head.

Rise and Shine, Starship!
Let me just get this out of the way: though the name change that happened to Celesteela made the legend have to have some names changed (resulting in the loss of the outright by-name reference to Kaguya), it's admirable that TPCi was able to keep the legend as intact as it did. Literally the only thing different is the name (Kaguya to Celeste; again, because of the franchise-wide name change from Tekkaguya to Celesteela). Considering that the legend is how Celesteela gains its name, TPCi could've very well created a plot hole if anything went wrong. But their localization worked out perfectly. So, kudos!
For the first time in the dub's history, a Pokemon is part of the Who's That Pokemon narration.
Okay, Meowth's "GET A LOAD OF THIS!!" was so Sonic Adventure 1 it was hilarious.
How long has it been since Sophocles was focused on? It was worth the wait, as it gave us a very nice focus episode on him. It was great how he spearheaded this entire episode's mission.
The music over the legend of Celeste was brilliant, and Celesteela's theme was lovely. I've been waiting for a break in the pattern of just normal good episode scoring, and I got my wish this week.
So far, this is the best Ultra Guardians episode.

I've been watching JP episodes, then US episodes for a while, but eventually it started getting redundant. A few music changes and different voices don't really have thelat big an impact in the greater scheme of things. I've decided to just do one or the other for the time being, instead of one after the other. It's easier that way. Like JP music more though.

The Young Flame Strikes Back
At last, Marowak gets focus and a Z-Move!
Eh, Alphonse von Scheck did that whole corrupt land developer shtick better (if anyone can guess my reference, then you all had good childhoods in 2002). Viren's still a piece of work, though, and it was great to see him lose.
So Ash's trip to the bathroom is to brush his teeth instead of bodily relief. Where's the freakout from the TPCi haters now, huh? Could they have grown some common sense at last? Seems so, so I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
I'll never like how the game music sounds when it gets ruined by you-know-who, but every now and then, it gets logically used, which is why I won't complain about the dub keeping it in both cases it did. But WOW was that an intense track playing after Kiawe lost to Viren.
The best part of this episode, though? Marc Swint's performance as Kiawe. He was all over the place in this one and did each mood perfectly. Well done!
This was a nice one for sure.

I am just pleased that there's another dub that translates from the original, Japanese, script.
Meanwhile every other western dub translates from the American script, I'm not a fan of that.

Catchy. The energy was JUST right for the series the opening was for.

Most of the time, as with the past when the series was under 4Kids, the other dubs are basically handed the American script and go from there (For the good or ill). It allowed 4Kids and TPCi to get additional money out of it, probably.
But none the less, that was a really lively and lovely singing voice!

A new dub teaser for The Power of Us. I just need the movie dub itself to not have any Miyazaki garbage in it, and all will be well.

They pronounced it like that because the title is a pun on Jupiter Ascending and I don't understand why.
You can still say Dewpider as how you say "dew" and "spider" with that title pun, it works perfectly fine.
