Well, that was the most unnecessary narration ever at the beginning. Wish the dub had cut it out.
Is Pikachu ever going to be friendly to a Raichu?? Muk isn't exactly an ideal cleanup crew, but okay. Picking Turtonator to be the racing Pokemon is just asking to come in last.
"Don't blow your stack!" Did anyone else immediately think "HEY! PHRASING!" when Meowth said that?
Raichu's got a fun little dub theme. And speaking of themes, the Fashion Theme (Don might know this one as the theme that played over the montage in XY's errand episode) got an islander remix; one of the only XY dub themes I've heard return. The maintained JP track was too dramatic for a race, even if it was the penultimate stretch. Wishing the dub hadn't kept it, but at least it went back to dub music when Meowth turned the boosters on. Still, it's a pity that Mima still hasn't learned to quit making mountains out of molehills music-wise, especially since his picking of a good track to play over Lillie's egg hatching seemed to indicate that the JP music was finally learning to calm the fuck down.
Speaking of Lillie's new Vulpix, its name is Snowy. To be honest, I like it better than my (and everyone else's) original guess of "Snowball."
This episode was fun, but next week's is one I've been looking forward to the dub of, as back when I made the grave mistake of watching this saga in Japanese, this was when I started outright skipping TR's scenes. Starting next week, I can start seeing what I missed.

Okay, the dub translation were we find out Lillie nicknamed the egg is really awkward:
Japanese version
Lilie: "Shiron..."
Satoshi: "Shiron?"
Lilie: "That's what I've been calling the egg while I looked after it. Since it's white and likes to roll around."
English version
Lillie: "Snowy...."
Ash: "Snowy?"
Lillie: "That's what I started calling the egg after taking care of it for a while. But now it's always trying to roll around."
Instead of doing a rewrite of the "since it's white" line, giving a reason as to why Lillie named the egg Snowy, TCPI instead did it with the "roll around" part.
And there's the fact it is made clear in the original version that the egg rolling around is something it has always been doing and didn't just start happening.

I'd be on your side about this issue if we'd seen any rolling around. But we didn't because the show is still in a dreadful "tell, don't show" mindset.

Actually I believe the "rolling around" part in the Japanese version is supposed to be literal, as in it's an egg, so it rolls when it moves.
And even if it's not, you can say the same thing about the dub too. That's why TPCI should have been focusing on the "it's white" line.
TPCI has gotta create another remake of the first English opening theme song for the next movie, because that's the only song that will suit it.
Can they come up with one so soon? Can they make one bet-actually I'm not even sure if their first remake for XY was good, bad or just okay.

This was nothing more than editing for the sake of editing. Second, don't count on the remake of the opening theme. With the way TCPI has been editing the Sun an Moon series so far, they would probably just put up another song for the movie.

So you might have notice I haven't been updating the front page with dub titles lately....
Yeah, I just feel like I'll be pushing myself for something I no longer have any interest in.
Or maybe it's this form in general... So enjoy the very awkward, incomplete, front page.

Honestly, the JP version of "Getting to Know You" didn't leave an impression on me whatsoever. It just felt like a near-half-hour of nothing. The JP version can literally only either piss me off, or make me feel nothing whatsoever. The dub, on the other hand...
"I feel really moved." Uh, Lana, this is the dub. You're allowed to not underact.
Ah, so THAT was TR's significance: a chance for Snowy to freeze someone. Whoop-dee-doo. So I guess I really did miss nothing at all when I skipped TR's scenes back when I saw this episode in Japanese. I like this episode better when it focuses on Lillie and Snowy. Though I never thought Lillie would take a page from Ash's dive-off-cliffs book. And Jessie has officially lost her spine to Bewear.
Snowy's theme and that of Samson's Vulpix = tons and tons of "yes" from me. Those ones are just as adorable as the theme of Serena's Eevee from XY's dub. I like how Snowy's theme uses the celesta. And when Lillie and Snowy were walking together just after the commercial break, that was the musical highlight of the episode. It had the same notes as the scene where Litten visited Stoutland, so I guess that's to be a general theme of friendship. I very much like.

Time for another episode I barely remember the JP version of.
It does help to know the roots of a Pokemon's name. That way, one can pronounce it right. I say that because knowing the word "lycanthrope" (werewolf) plainly gives away that "Lycanroc" has a similar pronunciation. It's kind of baffling how people have been admitting to pronouncing that Pokemon's name wrong until now.
What was with Ash doing a weird impression of Magmar? I'm guessing that was an awful joke from the JP version the dub had no choice but to sound awkward translating. I suppose the "KEEP EVERY. SINGLE. SECOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" crowd (you know, the dumbasses who complained about the vomit scene and the Meowth drowning scene being removed) ought to be pleased the dub kept that close-up of Ash's butt.
I don't think anyone can be blamed for thinking Rockruff belonged to Kukui. It's pretty neat that it now belongs to Ash, honestly. Not much else I can say about the episode's plot. It was a barely more than usual capture episode.
Music-wise, there's not much to say. It was all good, but apart from the theme that went over Rockruff's battles against Magmar (which was very good, by the way) and the theme that went over Ash's decision to capture Rockruff (again, a very good theme), nothing really stood out as being amazing.

They kept the close-up of Ash's butt because TPCI knows that wasn't supposed to be a sexual scene. And why? Because Ash is a fucking 10 year old boy and anyone who thinks it was are sick in the head. Behinds are portrayed in comedic way in children's shows and that was the entire point of that scene. Meanwhile vomit is bodily fluids and a dead body is scary for kids and that is why TPCI removed them. There is no joke/pun in the Japanese version, it's simply Satoshi doing an impression of Boober out of random, so there's no awkward translation from the dub.

Okay, so the dub of the episode were the old Stoutland passes away aired and TPCI do decently with the music they used to replace Nyasu's Ballad with.
So it should be same for the Snowbelle City theme, right? Oh no, it's awful. The only part that was emotional was at Litten's realization of what happened.
Meanwhile the rest of the music during Litten's search? It's ridiculous, they even had fucking Mickey Mousing during that scene, way to ruin a sad moment.
The fact that TPCI managed to conjure up an emotional song to replace Nyasu's Ballad with, but not the Snowbelle City theme just really boggles my mind.
They also put music during the scene with Meowth in the rain and what do they use? FUCKING COMEDY MUSIC and all because it was a Team Rocket scene.
It's official, TPCI does not know how to handle emotional scenes, the reason why that part had no music was to give us, the audience, a moment to grieve.
Hey, at least they didn't pretend Stoutland didn't die! Yeah, that sure was a huge surprise... Oh wait, it's not, TPCI has never once tried to change a death.
Now for positive talk on the dub; I really like Litten's English voice (despite it not really needing one) Lisa Ortiz did a great job making it sound like a real cat.
*Please note; all I said on this episode is my opinion and my opinion alone, I'm not talking for everybody else when I say all this. I won't attack you if you disagree.

The absolute, bar-none worst JP episode ever became one of the absolute best dubbed episodes ever. The overused, dull, no-longer-welcome stock "sad" theme that made the moment seem so ordinary and resulted in an insult to Stoutland's memory that's so insensitive that only funeral protests by the Westboro Baptist Church are capable of delivering a bigger insult to the dead?
GONE!!!!!!!!!! Replaced with an infinitely better track that gives the scene the tragedy it deserved. Terribly-done roundabout writing that wimps out of revealing Stoutland's fate (a move, which, by the way, betrays the testimony that the JP version is more "mature" than the dub)? GONE!!!!!!!!!! Replaced with dialogue that's still roundabout, but much more clear than the not-info the so-called "MORE MATURE" JP version gave out. So, yeah, the last of my unpleasant experiences with the JP version have been made up for. Starting next episode, I'll have only seen this saga dubbed. The JP version is finally 100% dead to me, and every bit of damage it did to me is gone.
(Ugh, this post feels so naked now...)

Now this on here is kind of music that TPCI should have also replaced the Snowbelle City theme with: maskedkitsune.tumblr.com/post/162497775825/ash-talks-about-his-past-adventures-and-how-muchSee? That's more like it, a single emotional song, not a mix of songs combined together. In the original version it was the Laverre City theme that was playing. I should be clear: I didn't care about TPCI replacing the Snowbelle City theme, it's what they replaced it with that mattered and what we got disappointed me. Also I expected them to fill that necessary silent moment with Meowth in the rain thinking about Litten with music. But why comical? Why not some sad music?

Sorry for double posting, but I just saw a video that showed an error were Togedemaru was coloured like Pikachu was fixed when the episode aired in English.
This was a correction by OLM and not TPCI (they don't have necessities to do this) and once it was fixed, that version of the episode was given to TPCI to dub.
I had to say this as there was this commenter on that video praising TPCI for "fixing the error" and I didn't want another dub watcher to be as stupid as them.

So the JP version just made a pitiful attempt at a random joke that all other versions have no choice but to inherit and look like fools in doing so. Marvelous...
