874 - The Scary House's Welcoming Services!
867 - Scary Hospitality!
It is a dark and stormy night, and the twerps are lost in the woods.
Longtime watchers, finish your drinks.
“We went to the left last time, didn’t we?” Ash asks. Apparently, they’ve been in this forest before. Pikachu confirms. Serena then tells about the scary house in the woods. Despite Bonnie wanting to check it out, no one else concurs. Ash decides to go right.
Right to the scary house, that is! It’s not taking “no” for an answer! Of course, there’s no need to actually go in it—
Right on cue. This is looking to be an adventure involving ghosts. And with that mansion there, then there definitely is a place for them to gather. Hopefully they’re friendly.
Regardless, those who go in there will be in for some
Of course, convenient lightning doesn’t mean they need to go in. I mean, it’s only unsafe if they hide under a tree, so unless some other bad weather happens like rain, then they can just go on their way—
Thundurus, you troll. Go back to Unova.
“Talk about bad timing…” Serena says. Though I’d say “convenient” more than “bad.”
Ack! A ghost!

.
Oh, wait, it’s just an old guy. Because mansions can never belong to adults below the age of 50
The old host invites the twerps inside.
“Is this the Scary House?” Bonnie asks.
The host has heard of his house being called that, but assures the twerps that his house is ordinary. However, as Clemont notes, there are just enough towels for all of the twerps.
Suspicious.
The host introduces himself as Lan, and then invites his guests to dinner.
Allow me to preempt Clemont by noting that there are enough fully-served plates for them. Oh, and Lan made nothing for himself. And though he does notice that, he eats along with the other twerps and the Pokemon. And after dinner, Lan invites them to tea. Because France.
As the twerps go down the hall, exploring while the tea is prepared, Clemont voices his suspicions, saying that it looks like Lan knew they were coming.
Tea is ready, but Clemont wasn’t for the announcement of it. And Lan sure got there quickly.
Over tea, Serena asks about why the house is called the “scary house.” So, Lan comes clean. He had lost his way long ago and found the house. The lights were all off, so he navigated by zippo.
Yes, like I said, by zippo.
In the kitchen, he finds a man in the corner. He asks the man permission to stay the night, to which he gets a “STAY AWAY!!” as a response.
Well, that hospitality was jump-scary.
The man explained that he yelled at the faceless men standing behind Lan.
The end!
Lan asks what the twerps think. Heh, it was a story after all. As it turns out, it’s called the “scary house” because Lan tells scary stories to his guests. But then when weird paranormal shit starts happening, Lan denies having anything to do with it. Clemont thinks he can scientifically prove the cause of it.
And he’ll prove it with…a metal detector??
No, actually it’s a “Mystery Watcher 1.” It’s a machine that can “detect and monitor unexplained mysterious powers by utilizing comprehensive sensing technology.”
So… it’s a Silph Scope?
Clemont starts searching the second floor with his totally-not-Silph Scope, but hasn’t yet found anything. But as soon as they all take a look at the moonlight and the cleared-up weather…
Gee, didn’t the Pokedex say something about a Pokemon hiding out in someone’s shadow?? At Serena’s order, Clemont uses his Clemont Scope to identify it. As he’s doing that, we see a ghostly figure appear and…
Take Ash from behind. And it looks like a Gengar.
It has to cut its ride short once Clemont points his toy (get your mind outta the gutter) at it. In the meantime…
A Haunter decides to get a taste of Serena. Her fright gets Clemont’s attention, and he shows her his weapon.
Its results come up empty.
The twerps conclude that ghosts are the reason this place is called the “scary house.” But Bonnie isn’t afraid, as she calls out to them, offering friendship to them. Will they take it? Find out after these messages.
Something invisible comes up the stairs and lifts Clemont off the ground.
The culprit carries his somethingorotherScope into a nearby room as the twerps give chase. In there, Bonnie snatches back the thingy and they find a piano playing by itself. Then more objects begin moving by themselves. At that point, something appears on the monitor of Clemont’s device.
Yep, it’s a Silph Scope. Called it.
And as the ghosts materialize upon Ash’s and Serena’s Pokedex checking, Gengar’s playing an impressive solo on the piano. So impressive that it somehow is able to make electronic synthesizer notes come out of it, too.
If it only took requests, I’d ask it to play Van Halen’s “Jump.”
Lan arrives and explains that it’s their hospitality. Apparently, they’re good friends of his, and that’s why this place is called the “scary house.” Now that they know the reason, then can now leave. Well, once they find Bonnie. As Ash goes off to look for her, he’s heard screaming, and he’s gone. And on the first floor, so is Serena. Clemont sees the trapdoor she fell through. Lan shows Clemont a secret way to the basement. Clemont and Chespin go downstairs and find a door with tags on the frame.
From beyond, Ash, Serena, and Bonnie respond to Clemont when he wonders aloud why it’s sealed shut. Clemont concludes that the door is rusted, so Ask has Frogadier take care of that with Frubbles. Ash then pulls the door open. Inside the room, they find a journal. Back upstairs, Lan is relieved to see everyone is safe. When he sees the journal, he asks Clemont to read it to him.
“I was always afraid in this house, so I asked my dad to make a room in the basement that no one else could get into; a super-secret room just for me,” he reads. Serena says that sounds like the room she, Ash, and Bonnie fell into. “He even made me a bunch of cool passageways, so I could go to the room from anywhere in the house right away when something was scaring me.” At that, Ash notes that it’s talking about the trapdoors. “But the scary things kept happening, so my dad finally brought a Medium who could drive away the spirits of the house. Afterwards, he gave me a bunch of banishing tags to stick on my door.” At that, Bonnie says that those tags were what was pasted to the door frame. “Even so, scary things kept happening, so we’re finally moving out of here today. This is my last day in the house.”
When Clemont turns a page, something falls out of the book.
I wonder who that could be???
Bonnie notes the resemblance. That definitely is Lan. He then explains that he put up the tags, finally noticing that the Kanto ghosts were the causes of the scary incidents.
Bonnie then flips the picture over and notices the date.
Ash notices that the date was over 200 years ago.
So, this series is dated in 1958 or so???
Well, anyway, that date is one Lan remembers, and he reveals his secret at last.
He says, “Well, you see, I’m not quite alive.”
This revelation elicits a big scream from the twerps. And then, the next morning…
They decided to sleep outside. I guess they didn’t want the company of the most sentient zombie ever. Wussies.
Or did they decide to sleep outside? They start wondering whether or not it was a dream as they finally locate the Pokemon Center. Bonnie glances at a photo.
Was it really a dream?
Well, in any case, this adventure is over, and the twerps’ travels are…
Oh, there they are. Wow. We almost went a whole episode without our favorite bumblers. While searching for cover, they come across the Scary House.
Well, looks like they’ll be in for some scary hospitality then. Too bad the episode’s over, keeping us from seeing it. Oh well. Here’s hoping it wasn’t too bad.
