Okay, who didn't see this coming? *looks around* That's what I thought. I'm starting to get a horrible feeling that Lucario is, in fact, Korrina's only Pokémon and that the Gym Battle will be a lame-ass one-on-one battle. Why did Ash even train Froakie and Hawlucha for the Gym Battle if Pikachu's going to be the only one battling again?! Korrina is a great character, but if she really only has one Pokémon, then I just lost all my respect for her as a Gym Leader.
Pikachu's Electro Ball, naturally. Pikachu has already lost to Lucario too often, so he must win this time.
True, every series has its flaws, but there's plenty of time for XY to get better, and it's already very good IMO.
I was very happy when I saw that they're finally recognizing the fact that Serena doesn't have a dream. I hope it doesn't end there, but as far as I'm concerned, Serena doesn't really need a dream for as long as she's an entertaining character. It's actually quite realistic, because I doubt many ten-year-olds in real life have serious life ambitions. However, she's a Trainer, so she should at least battle more.

A clash between Electro Ball and Aura Sphere? It would be funny if those are the last two moves used by them, because those are also the final attacks used by Ash's Pikachu and Cameron's Lucario in the Unova League. Of course, at the time, Pikachu was weakened more than Lucario so Aura Sphere overpowered. Hey, there was no reason to get rid of this from your list of quotes, SJ, I could have just edited my post. I mean the irony, if this is so, would be funny after all. You must know Lucario and Riolu always have the best battles in the anime. The writers want you to see them as awesome because of how popular they are, They even have characters acknowledge this (no SJ, I'm not starting anything, I am posting the images with subs from that episode as an example, that is it): Apparently Team Rocket might be getting a very important and notable role in the XY series? Now I have seen XY40 and XY41 with subtitles, so I thought it's time to comment on them. (Yes, Don, I know I've commented on episodes that I haven't seen with subtitles before, but I've decided not to do so anymore unless I really like the episode or if it's really important to the series' plot etc.) The PokéVision episode was pretty cute, but I wasn't that impressed. Serena and Bonnie cooking Poké Puffs together was sweet, and the "private time" between Ash and Serena in the gorge was shiptastic, but that was about it. When Shauna told Serena and Bonnie about Pokémon Performers and "TriPokalons", I think I was supposed to get excited, but I didn't. I know that Serena is a girly girl and every girl in Kalos probably wants to become Kalos Queen, but the whole TriPokalon thing sounds just like a rehash of Contests and we've seen plenty of those already. Not only that, but there's not even battling involved, so I kinda hope that Serena will not make becoming Kalos Queen her dream. I wouldn't mind her trying it out, though - she's tried plenty of things out already and it's mostly been fun to watch. It's also pretty interesting that only girls can enter TriPokalons - it reminds me of the (in)famous Princess vs. Princess.I laughed when I saw that Trevor had apparently hooked a goddamn Wailord. No wonder Team Squirtle won that round. I think the twerps' PokéVision video was terrible, however. I can't believe they won that round. I guess the kids at the camp have an odd sense of humor or something. The PokéEnteering episode was much better. I haven't seen the Diancie movie yet, but I assume that the twerps don't get mind-wiped in it, so the summer camp arc most likely happens before the movie. Otherwise Bonnie would certainly have recognized Xerneas, right? I've always liked to think that all Pokémon movies are canon except the impossible two versions of the first BW movie, so I really wouldn't like to consider the latest movie as non-canon. Anyway, both the twerps and Team Squirtle were in top form in this episode. Tierno and Squirtle's rock climbing was brilliant, Serena's cowardice while crossing the bridge was very cute and Clemont beating Trevor to the checkpoint was a great character moment for him IMO. It's funny, Serena crossing that bridge brought back memories of the only time I recall when Ash has ever been shown to be afraid of heights. It happened way back in the Fuchsia Gym episode in Kanto and it was a very similar situation - Ash was crossing a bridge over a deep gorge, shaking with fear while his friends were perfectly fine and wanted him to get a move on. Ever since then he's been the most reckless daredevil there is while doing this sort of thing, like in this very episode. Clemont wanted to be the hero for once and save his sister, but it's probably a good thing he allowed Ash to do it instead. Ash has way more experience with risking his life for others, after all. I'm happy that Clemont did get a small hero moment too in the end, though. The whole situation reminded me of a certain episode of Doctor Who for some reason - there's the main character, the girl and then there's the third wheel/tech support/tin dog. Clemont is so like Mickey Smith, except that he's not interested in Serena. (Well, neither is Ash...)

XY042 screenshots: filb.de/anime/xy/042 and XY043 preview video: filb.de/anime/xy/043So Team Keromatsu are getting their asses kicked by Team Zenigame's brilliant teamwork, but once the one with no battle experience gets knocked out Team Keromatsu gets back in the game and win the battle. Yep, Serena better (should) be learning from all this and start improving as well as finding herself a goal. I love the new segment were Manon and Hari-san introduce Mega Evolutions, this week was Mega Jukain, Alan and Mega Lizardon X make an appearance too.

The latest episode was a pretty good ending to the summer camp arc. I'm glad that the twerps beat Team Squirtle, but I had a few issues with the battle:
- Ash used Pikachu instead of Froakie, like I knew he would - It was Pikachu who beat every opposing Pokémon - Bulbasaur and Fennekin didn't really do anything that mattered
Honestly, I don't see why you think Ash is being overglorified in the XY series, Don. Pikachu is the one who's hogging all the spotlight and getting all the important wins, if you ask me. Fennekin's loss was perfectly realistic and Chespin played his supporting role well, but I got the feeling that Pikachu could have won that battle all on his own (which he did, in a way). At least we got to see his high level and power used right, which is actually kinda rare, but that is one of the two main reasons why Ash should have used Froakie instead. Pikachu was way too powerful for those three low level starters to handle. He OHKO'd them all, even Bulbasaur. Why does Ash even bother to catch new Pokémon in every region if he's not going to use them?!

Ash is being glorified because he's been having all the cool scenes while everyone else are the supporters.
The only time Ash takes a back seat is if the episode focuses on a certain character (e.g; Clemont, Korrina).
Pikachu is getting all the wins and Ash is getting all the glory. By the way I'm not the only who can see this.

Pikachu is being built up to compare to Mega Lucario. I hope Fletchinder just sweeps Ramos, every Pokemon deserves their time in the spotlight and Pikachu, as always, has far too much. Damn mascot being a part of this series.
And it is something to note, but we're still early in the series. It's fine if Ash gets his spotlight, if other characters do too. I'll remain optimistic that merchandise doesn't drive this train.
...*sigh*
