Interesting. Mimikyu looked like the kind of Pokemon James would catch. A little cute one like Chimecho, Mime Jr., Yamask, and Inkay. I supposed then the most likely Pokemon he'll get to catch is Bewear, which given its nature would fit in with the Pokemon that attack him like Victreebel, Cacnea, and Carnivine. It really would fit very well with James, once he befriends it. Ash will probably have a hard time with it, should it decide to join Team Rocket.

One of the previews shown at the end of episode 4 looks like an episode that hasn't yet been officially given a title and synopsis. That Litten that we've seen a few times throughout looks to be getting a focus episode where Ash tries to get it to open up to him.
Might end with Ash catching it.

I can describe the Sun and Moon anime with one word: Cute. That just about sums it up. It's not amazing, epic or serious, but it really doesn't have to be. Like I said before, they can't do better than XY, so why even try? I agree with you, Don, this silliness might be just what we need right now.
That said, it certainly started out in a badass way. Ash got a Z-Ring and battled Team Skull and Tapu Koko. I don't expect those plot points to go anywhere any time soon, but I'm more than happy with school shenanigans in the meantime. Ash's classmates are adorable... except Kiawe. He reminds me of Alain so much that it's not even funny. He even has a Charizard of his own. I hope he won't get too much screentime compared to the others.
I'm happy Ash caught a Rowlet, but OF COURSE Pikachu had to lose to a goddamn wild Grubbin before that. Yes, I know that Pikachu wasn't really KO'd and that he got distracted during the battle, but... Argh! Will this nightmarish tradition ever end?!
Oh well, I didn't want Ash to catch a Bug-type anyway.
So Team Rocket wasn't after Ash this time when they arrived in Alola? There's a change of pace. I love how Giovanni takes them seriously these days, and he should, after all the times those three have helped the heroes bring down rival Teams. I still don't think he bought their fake video, however. I think he was just happy to lose another rival Team that he let them off easy.
That scene where Meowth almost died was downright horrifying. Maybe SM is more dark than I thought after all. It seems Team Rocket finally has a real powerhouse on their side. Ash better not take Mimikyu lightly. Also, someone should really tell him to attack it first with Thunderbolt or Electro Ball to break its Disguise and only then use Iron Tail. I'd hate to see him make the same mistake too many times.
Bewear is... something else. If this is how Team Rocket will "blast off" in Alola, I just might like it. Ash may be the one who always impresses legendary Pokémon, but Team Rocket are now pals with Jesus!
P.S. Yeah, they're totally giving TPCI the finger with Samson's puns and Ash not being able to say "PokéDex" and I love it.

Yeah, they're totally giving TPCI the finger with Samson's puns and Ash not being able to say "PokéDex" and I love it. Saying that the JP version's inclusion of untranslatable puns means insulting a foreign translator is like saying J.K. Rowling insulted every other language on the planet by naming a key location "Diagon Alley" (diagonally), or that Walt Disney was insulting all other languages when he had "All in the Golden Afternoon" (what with its numerous garden puns) written for "Alice in Wonderland", et cetera, et cetera. That said, Samson's a rather fun character. I could be wrong, but is he voiced by Samuel's JP VA? Also, as I said, the first two SM episodes were great. Team Rocket's return in episode 3 did most certainly damage my hopes, though not as drastically as they'd been damaged before. This is totally my feeling on JP Meowth talking (and I'd never, ever say this about his dub self), but I wish Mimikyu had successfully murdered him. Other than that, though, episodes 3 and 4 were average.

Curious to know how much they'll still keep in about the game's darker elements. {Spoiler} Like how much will they actually keep about Lillie and Gladion's mom becoming abusive, the experimentation done on Type: Null before Gladion escaped with it, or Lusamine keeping Pokemon in cryogenic stasis. That said, Samson's a rather fun character. I could be wrong, but is he voiced by Samuel's JP VA? Yes. They're both voiced by Unsho Ishizuka, who's also voiced Alden, Gurkinn (Korrina's grandfather), and the Magikarp salesman.

Yeah, they're totally giving TPCI the finger with Samson's puns and Ash not being able to say "PokéDex" and I love it. First, give the Sun and Moon anime a chance. We are only 5 episodes out, and the anime will really pick up after the new year. These first episodes are only the primer designed to delve into everyone's character. They will get to the trials after the new years. In fact, in previous series openers, Ash already got his first badge by episode 6 (Black and White with the two-part gym battle, and XY with the match and rematch). So it's a nice change of pace not to immediately go into the plot. Second, don't forget that Pikachu also battled Mimikyu in the previous episode. Episode 4 started off where episode 3 ended, so of course Pikachu would be tired by this point. It's not like Ash had other pokémon besides Pikachu. Besides, it's really not as bad as it was in Black and White. Third, Bewear might have been able to run on water, but so was Sanpei's Frogadiar and Ash's Froakie, so it's not like it's anything special. Fourth, why should Ash be limited to one Iron tail after a thunderbolt or an electro ball? Couldn't he use two iron tails in a row? Mimikyu's not even resistant to electric types. It takes neutral damage to a thunderbolt after it's disguise ability is broken, so as long as Ash isn't dumb enough to call for a normal or fighting type move, or a dragon type move on Mimikyu, he should be fine.

I am giving it a chance. I'm watching it, aren't I? I did also mention that it started out in a badass way and that I will be more than happy with school shenanigans for a while. 2. Good point, I guess I did forget that. Also, maybe that Grubbin was the strongest Grubbin in Alola or something. Yes, it definitely wasn't as bad as it was in BW. 3. Bewear isn't a Water-type, though, and Rotom was surprised to see a Bewear run on water. Of course, it was just a silly joke, so it certainly wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I don't think Bewear would have been able to do it if it wasn't so obsessed with Team Rocket for whatever reason. 4. It's called strategy. Why should Ash use a physical attack to break Mimikyu's Disguise and risk getting counter-attacked with Shadow Claw or Play Rough by doing so? It would be much smarter to break Disguise from a distance and then attack Mimikyu with whatever he likes. Iron Tail just happens to be super-effective, that's all.

I quoted before reading the first point. Sorry, I hear from other posters (most noticeably in Serebii Forums) saying how terrible this anime may have become, especially some who never watched it and only saw the first poster and hated it. I get points 2 and 3. but on point 4, it's not like Pikachu hasn't used two iron tails in a row. He could hit him with the first Iron Tail, and swing back with another one before Mimikyu has a chance to react. Though I do understand that hitting it from afar first would be a good strategy.

And like I thought, the first 9 episodes to end the year is merely primer to get us used to the new anime. At the beginning of next year, Ash starts taking on the trials.

Makes me wonder what they're going to do with the other trial captains when over half of them just seem to be students at the school. If it's just the Kahunas running the trials, what will Ilima, Acerola, and Mina get to do?

But that seems weird that they'd be trial captains when aside from maybe Kiawe, they don't live on the islands they do in the games. Lana seems to live on Melemele island instead of Akala based on the last episode.
