855: Karamanero Tai Māīka! Kizuna wa Sekai o Sukuu!!
849: Facing the Grand Design!
Today for once, we start with a shot of Team Rocket eating Croissants, James making mention that it's Inkay's favorite food, I wonder if that'll be important later?
Anyway, the Twerps are walking by below them, and are apparently talking about UFOs, according to Serena you can see them on the mountain up ahead, Clemont thinks this is dumb as fuck, there's ain't no such things as aliens, ain't no way, no how.
Bonnie is rooting against Clemont, though hoping their are aliens, and hoping they have cute Pokémon with them.
Ash being the dim boy he is, who has previously met Clefairy, Mew, Deoxys, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Elgyem and Beheeyem, wishes he could meet a Pokémon from space, just one. God - who Ash has also met - Ash wonders why you can't just do him a solid and allow him to meet one Pokémon from space, because that would be "cool".
Just one.
*ahem*
Before Ash can lament how much of his life has been wasted not meeting a single Pokémon from Space, the twerps run into a Malamar, and it looks like they're...
Clemont points out that this Malamar, looks like that Malamar that hypnotized them that one time that happened, because all Malamar look alike to him.
PokéRacist!
The Malamar disgusted by Clemont's White Pride shoves off to rejoin it's friends in a field of other Malamar who appear to be living peacefully with other Pokémon, giving Clemont a lesson in how prejudice hurts us all.
Team Rocket are also observing the Pokémon peacefully which is weird, because they haven't expressed a desire to steal them yet.
Well, before we get too lost in the beauty that is nature, a semi-truck comes FROM OUTTA NOWHERE, like it was Randy Orton and almost murders the twerps on the spot.
It's hard to make out the drivers, but Inkay sees something that sends it into a fit of apoplexy, and it flies off. Maybe it really likes the twerps, and didn't want them to die?
The twerps are also - rightfully - pissed off themselves, but there's not much they can do about it, the trucks are gone, and there's no Officer Jennies about, and even if there were, nothing would get done anyway.
So, the twerps continue on to the mountain, and are back to wanting to meet aliens, who Clemont is adamant don't exist, while in the mountain the trucks come to a stop.
Inkay has Team Rocket show they have Nickelodeon Guts, as they climb the Super Aggro Crag. Once they get to the top, they spot the trucks, and watch as the doors come open, and weird energy crystal... things... come out the sides, and meticulously arrange themselves.
Team Rocket are perplexed, what the hell is going on here? Just then they finally see who was driving the trucks... and it was a tripartite of Malamar?
Well, that's new.
This is most definitely the Malamar from before that hypnotized them. Inkay goes into another fit of rage, and screams at it so loudly and angrily that Meowth can't translate it. Jesse thinks that it might want them to get captured, and Meowth points out that it does evolve into Malamar, but James ain't having it, there's no way his Inkay would join in with those Malamar, while Team Rocket have it out, they do it so loud they alert the Malamar to their whereabouts, and have to run off.
The twerps are leisurely easing on up the path on the side of the mountain and decide to take a break, as Team Rocket come barreling down the mountainside, Wobbuffet tripping over his... foot thing? crashing them next to the twerps.
The twerps immediately j'accuse Team Rocket of trying to steal Pikachu, even though they literally have not done a thing.
Team Rocket set them straight and tell them that they are all in danger, as a mysterious voice tells them to get into her cave, which would make for an awful pick-up line.
The woman is Officer Jenny, specifically the "Madame X" variant Officer Jenny we met last time, she's been living in a cave... er, tracking Malamar by doing a "secret investigation". Apparently the Malamar hypnotized Kalos' most distinguished scientists to use their device as a weapon.
Clemont wonders what they plan to do, though it seems obvious as they're very obviously evil, and from the previous encounter, have ambitions to take over the world, or some such.
Jenny, showing that despite the relatively higher competence than her contemporaries, and for all her investigating has no idea what they're doing either.
Well, as they say, you can lead an Officer Jenny to water... wait, that's not how the saying goes.
Anyway, Bonnie is scared and Jenny tells her there's No need to worry, or she would is she was Dawn, but she's not, but she says she will stop them, and won't let them have their way.
Meanwhile, outside the cave the Malamar are having their way as the energy crystals are now floating in the air and are sending power to form a small ominously glowing orb.
Everybody runs outside after hearing an explosion and running directly into the Malamar, who apparently knew they were hiding there and sneak up behind them. Inkay begins screaming at them again, and Jesse begins to get even more suspicious, but before she can asess the situation, the Malamar welcome them to the "final stage" of their "Grand Design".
Jenny interogates them, but instead of responding they capture them with... Psychic, maybe? Before they can get ahold of James, Clemont, Meowth and Inkay however, Inkay spits ink in it's face, preventing it from Psychic-ing them and , as the cheese it by digging under through the mountain.
The first Malamar takes the captures to the top of the mountain while the second floats down the mountain. To help heal it's hurt pride.
They pop out of the grass, and Bunnelby is recalled to his Pokéball to never be seen again for another 20 weeks.
Inkay is still off his rocker in anger, and Meowth gets it to slow down enough so he can translate. Apparently Inkay's super pissed off at that Malamar for controlling James last time, and it's ready to knock his block off.
Meowth is apologetic for not trusting it before, and he Inkay and James prepare to head back up the mountain. Before they get too far, Clemont reminds them that the Malamar are pretty much stronger than them, and they'll probably get thrashed in a head-to-head fight. Suddenly Inkay gets an idea and floats to the forest.
Back at the mountain, Malamar shows Jenny what they're plan is, mostly because they've already won, and there's nothing they can do to stop it. The Malamar's Grand Design is they want to use these energy crystals to alter the world, and change the environment to suit them.
I don't quite get what this means, as they seem to be doing fine in the current environment, but they're Pokémon villains, and their plans don't have to make much sense.
Inkay has floated to where they met the other Pokémon living in the area, and is trying to rally support for them, but apparently the "good" Malamar aren't really buying into the plan, that is until the evil Malamar shows up and Hyperbeams the Forest Pokémon.
It tries to then rally the troops to it's side, but they refuse, the Good Malamar in particular are pissed about the Evil one attacking it's friends, so they hand it it's ass and send it packing.
Meanwhile back at the mountain, the Energy Crystals are changing color to apparently indicate some sort of countdown, the Final Countdown (hey, like that song), once they've all turned Red, then the Malamar's Grand Design will have come to fruition.
The Malamar marvel at their plan coming together, just as they're attacked by the Forest Pokémon. As James tells Jesse that they've got help, a Malamar grabs Inkay and hypnotizes it.
Jesse still thinks that Inkay was already on their side, and James set her straight, Inkay and him are true partners.
Malamar succeeds in hypnotizing Inkay, and poor dumb Ash who hasn't caught on to the fact that the Malamar are evil asks why they'd do something like that.
Either way, Inkay begins attacking, and James tries to reason with Inkay about not letting Malamar's Hypnosis sever their bond, he then pulls out a croissant and tries to get it to remember him that way.
It doesn't work, and Malamar has it Tackle James, at which point he immediately begins forcing it to eat, and it remembers, breaking free of the Hypnosis, a sweet moment usually reserved for Ash and Pikachu.
Malamar can't believe it, and stands stoically still allowing Inkay to Tackle it. The Malamar and everbody else then begin to fight, the Malamar are clearly outnumbered, but it seems to be in fact a clever subterfuge, as the good guys seem to have lost the plot while the crystals continue to turn red.
Jenny finally notices and sends out Manectric to use Thunder and disrupt the Crystals countdown, creating a pretty rain of light and knocking the Crystals to the ground.
The Malamar are defeated and Jenny tells them to come quietly, but Malamar tells her to get fucked, as they're escaping into the future instead and will be back and when they return their Grand Design will finally succeed.
They float off, and apparently set the evidence to explode, it'll be interesting to see what they have planned upon returning.
Before the episode fades out though, Team Rocket are resting in the forest by the Forest Pokémon, the Malamar and Inkay of the group invite James' Inkay over, because they now consider it their good buddy.
Jesse notes that they like Inkay, and Inkay likes them, too. James takes this in, and decides to leave, clearly believing Inkay will find happiness with the group of Pokémon, however Inkay floats over and sets him straight, that he's found happiness with James, and thus wants to stay with him because it makes him happy.
D'awwww.
In an nice reversal of the usual ending, Inkay and Team Rocket get to say good-bye to the new group of characters that they'll never visit again.
