852: Ruchaburu to Dāku Ruchaburu!
845: When Light and Dark Collide!
The twerps are continuing on to Coumarine City, through a SPOOKY forest, when they hear a loud SCREAM.
Clemont somehow surmises it has to be a Pokémon, even though it was just a loud noise that gave no indication of it's origin, and could be someone being murdered in cold blood.
Oh, guess it was a Pokémon, a Snubbull and it appears to be harrased by an off-color Hawlucha, though a few things about this scene are suspect, like the lighting and the way Hawlucha and Snubbull are standing shoulder-to-shoulder.
But, never mind that shit, Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt... just as a Gallade runs onto the scene. The Pokémon jump just in time to avoid the attack, but Gallade lands wrong and breaks it's ankle...? The twerps approach the Pokémon who we can now see standing on a stage, as a pissed off Snubbull bites Ash's arm... and electrocutes him?
The pissed off Snubbull then begins snarling at the other twerps, as a row of stage lighting comes on, and a man begins yelling at Ash for fucking up their rehearsal.
Yes, they were putting on a play apparently the classical story of...
In two episodes they've introduced themselves to two people by straight pissing them off.
I'm seeing a theme of this new season.
Anyway, the man's name is Carl, Carl Kennedy McMahon! (It's kind of impressive they've made it 840+ episodes, and have apparently never used the name "Carl" before) And he's the Theater Director.
The twerps announce themselves, and Ash dejectedly apologizes for fucking up his rehearsal, they explain that they misunderstood what was happening and thought that Hawlucha was attacking Snubbull.
Carl is understanding, and tells them what they were rehearsing for. It's the "Super Pokémon Battle Show". What's the "Super Pokémon Battle Show"? The "Super Pokémon Battle Show", is an event where the entertainment goes beyond just Pokémon Battles and is battles with scripted plotlines... basically it's Pokémon Professional Wrestling, and it already sounds more exciting than Showcases.
The story is that the Villain (heel), named Dark, and the Hero (Babyface), Shiny, settle their differences BY FIGHTING!
Before he can finish Nurse Joy finishes Gallade's treatment, she informs him that Gallade is good to go, but his leg won't be healed fully for another two or three days.
Two or Three days? But the "Super Pokémon Battle Show" is tomorrow, and there's no way Gallade will be able to perform, and it'll take it's leg even longer to heal.
Well, there's nothing Carl can do, he'll have to cancel the show, and he and his Pokémon will starve this month.
Ash feels bad (as he should), but Carl puts him at ease as he tries to think of ways to ration garbage scraps to feed himself and his Pokémon.
But just then, Bonnie has an idea, what if they sub in another Pokémon instead.
It's a great idea, but Carl doesn't have an understudy ready, but Bonnie has that angle figured out already and volunteers Ash's Hawlucha.
Ash is happy to help, since he ruined the man's life in the first place, and Carl rushes off to re-write the script.
Later at the Theatre, Ash let's out THE MUTHAFUCKIN' FOREST WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, HAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWLUUUUUUCHHAA!
Ash sets Hawlucha straight that this battle is FAAAAAAAAKE, and Carl lays out the battle. Dark Hawlucha (the shiny Hawlucha), and Shining Hawlucha (Ash's Non-Shiny Hawlucha), will battle over Snubbull, the villain will have the advantage to start the battle, but the crowd will (hopefully) get hot for the action, and this will will the hero to a rousing comeback and get the over.
The crowd interaction making it another thing that parallels it with Professional Wrestling over standard stage plays.
They start the rehearsal, and I feel this is as good a place as any to mention that the Closed Captioning for Dark Hawlucha's lines all read "DARK HAWLUCHA", for some reason.
Anyway, they start by running into each other and start with a Collar-and-Elbow Tie-up, that Shining Hawlucha reveres into a Sleeper Hold. Carl instructs Dark Hawlucha to throw Shining Hawlucha, ater Dark breaks out of the hold, he starts running... but Shining doesn't move.
The twerps instruct him that it is FAAAAKE and not real, and that he has to let Dark throwing him, and Ash instructs that he run into the wall, and rebound back.
He does this, rushes to a waiting Dark and FUCKING HI JUMP KICKS HIM IN THE FACE.
This exasperates everyone as they continue to expose the business of FAKE WRESTLING, but Shining isn't quite getting it.
They rehearse the scene again, they're in the throes of battle, as Dark Irish Whips Shining into the wall, and he rebounds and eats a Karate Chop.
Shining still not quite getting it, starts fighting for real, IT'S A SHOOT, as the Twerps have to pull them apart, Carl realizes that his big show is going to fly off the rails, and he'll bring shame to the McMahon name.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket decide that The Boss probably thinks Super Pokémon battle shows are the best thing ever, and that they'll steal them and he can out on his own shows that he can watch whatever.
I'd question the logic in this, but I forgot who we're talking about.
Hawlucha is dejectedly standing on a bridge, as the Twerps show up and insist that they know he can do this thing, but Hawlucha is still just so unsure. Meanwhile, they notice Dark Hawlucha taking bumps off a tree.
Carl explains that before he got into This Business, he used to be a prized fighter in a Kalos Region Fighting-Type torunament, beating the shit out of a Machop and Machamp, convenient that.
During one of those battles it faced an injury that put it out of commission, and as such Carl created the "Super Pokémon Battle Show", as a less physically demanding alternative, that it takes great pride in regardless of the authenticity of the actual fighting.
LAter, Ash and Hawlucha practice his spots, with Ash playing the part of Dark Hawlucha, as the real Dark Hawlucha spies from around a corner.
It's a wrap for today's rehearsals, Clemont worries if Hawlucha (Ash's) will be OK, for tomorrow's show, but Ash is confident he's got this.
The next day, that announcer welcomes the Thousands in attendance, and millions watching at home. How many millions? Apparently 20 million, which is a fucking lot of people for a event that one guy invented not a few years ago, holy shit, he really is a McMahon.
The show starts, and Jesse is having a goddamn conniption as the bright lights are calling her name. Meowth and James try desperately to stop her from fucking over their plan, but nothing keeps Jesse from what she wants and next thing you know, she's on stage to the surprise of everyone.
James and Meowth give in, as there's no turning back now, and Carl makes them reveal who they are, and for once in a long while we get a motto that doesn't use the admittedly pretty, but rote stock footage.
"Prepare for trouble, but not in the show!"
"And make it double, we'll go with the flow!"
"To protect the world from Second-rate actors!"
"To unite the crowd against detractors!"
"To denounce the evils of... no class!"
"To extend our reach and do it en masse!"
"Jesse!"
"And James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off like a shooting star!"
"Surrender the stage now, if not, better get ready to spar!"
"MEOWTH, THERE YOU ARE!"
"WOOOOBBBBUUUFFFEEETT!"
Carl with his classic McMahon short temper demands that someone make Team Rocket leave already
Jesse isn't one for sharing the spotlight and tells the twerps to fuck off, but the other two set her straight that their original reason for even being here in the first place is to steal some Pokémon.
James has Inkay blast Pikachu with Psybeam, and for the first time in probably fucking forever, they manage to incapacitate Ash's yellow rat.
They have less luck with the Hawlucha however, and after they learn to work together, they manage to dispatch Team Rocket themselves, and send Team Rocket blasting off.
Wow, thanks for joining us Pikachu.
Well, with the very real threat of Jesse basically squatting in the middle of the stage gone, they start the show.
Dark Hawlucha is menacing Snubbull, as it's written in the script, but shining Hawlucha is watching from above, ready to pounce.
as we see him, we here the classical anime "nervous, bone shaking" sound, which is interesting, because I don't quite remember them going over Hawlucha being outright nervous to perform, but maybe he realizes how important to Dark this is?
I don't know, I'm pulling stuff out of my ass.
Anyway, he botches and falls, flat on his back in front of everyone.
Shining recovers, Dark breaks kayfabe and gives Shining a hand, which freaks out Carl, since they're meant to be mortal enemies after all, but they ignore this, and push past to the fight. It's not the fight as scripted, they're calling audibles all over the place and just Hammer Arming each other.
The twerps think that Carl should call it, but he notices something, and then one member of the crowd starts a "Shining Go!" chant, that THE ENTIRE CROWD joins in on, which, take it from someone who's been to many wrestling events, is nowhere near this easy to do.
We get treated to their internal thought, as they're both in a wrestling ring (Wrestling rings have 3 ropes, Boxing has like 4 or something. I don't know) anyway, they're exchanging blows, as shining let's loose it's Hi Jump Kick, putting down Dark.
Of course, some Smarks had to show up, and are cheering the heel, Dark to is feet as well. Dark jumps off the ropes (that are not really there) and they both deflect the opponent's dropkicks.
Dark is changing the script on the fly, and continue to exchange hits. Shining tries to take down Dark with a Splash, but Dark moves just in time to avoid this.
they meet in the middle of the ring for a Test of Strength and presumably to call the finish, and then back off, and charge each other, and like something out of a kung-fu movie glance past each other, and stand in their corners until one falls.
The one who falls is of course, Dark Hawlucha, and Shining goes over. Afterwards, now that the match is over, Hawlucha lends Dark his hand, and the crowd applauds the respect they now have for each performer.
The next day, the twerps thank Carl for the experience, and he thanks them for giving the crowd a great time.
Though it was of course their fault they almost didn't put on a show in the first place.
