The twerps are still making their way to Cyllage City, as Bonnie feeds Dedenne some snacks, Clemont becomes an after-school special and warns her (and the kids at home) of the dangers of eating too many snacks before dinner. Ash puts in that he and Pikachu eat lots of snacks but are never too full, but Serena (who was also in the middle of feeding Fennekin twigs) helpfully explains that he likes eating lots of food.
Serena comes up with an idea, they'll have a break, right in the middle of nowhere, since the next town isn't too far away, and Ash mentions that they can go to the Pokémon Center once they get there, Bonnie checks with Dedenne... and it's gone.
Looks like Dedenne gave Bonnie...
The twerps spread out looking for it, and Serena spots it in front of a Berry tree, because apparently it didn't really give a fuck about all the proper diet bullshit they were selling.
In town the twerps are at the Pokémon Center, and Bonnie plays with Dedenne until she notices some random woman standing at the phone, while the twerps Pokémon are all taken care of by Nurse Joy, Bonnie runs to the woman and asks her to please take care of Clemont.
She tries to sell him by mentioning that while he may not look like it, he's a gym leader with a bright future ahead of him, but she can't take care of him forever. Clemont's backpack arm grabs her away while she begs for the woman to think about it.
Clemont and Bonnie argue over it, while the woman, Lena, takes it in good enough humor and prepares to take off with her little sister Lyn, who grabs her satchel, which by some coincidence is incredibly identical to Bonnie's. And they leave to never be seen again.
Ash's brain comes up with the one solution it has for all problems and that's to have a battle, and they all head off, as Bonnie swings back to grab her satchel. Ash is battling Clemont's Chespin with Pikachu, Clemont sends Chespin in with Tackle, and Ash counters with Iron Tail and sends Chespin flailing back to him, he then orders Vine Whip, that Pikachu dodges.
The girls watch from the side, and remark how well they're moving, until Bonnie's satchel moves, and two black triangles pop out. Bonnie is confused, those aren't Dedenne's ears, until the thing inside finally opens the bag from inside to reveal that Dedenne has evolved into a Pichu!
Wait, that's not right. It IS a Pichu.
Or as we all know it, the first in what was to be a long line of soulless clones of Pikachu invented to catch Pikachu's lightning in a bottle again (Hey, because Pikachu's Electric-type. Get it?)
Well, the marketing device takes notice of Bonnie and immediately runs off, starts crying and attempts to electrocute Bonnie and Serena. Ash and Clemont rush over to figure out what the hell just happened, as Pichu continues to blast off electricity.
Pikachu shows Pichu how it's done and blasts in with Thundershock, and puts it on it's ass. Serena as dictated by the Nintendo marketing department, which is probably lead by Mario at this point, informs the kids at home that Pichu is totally cute as she scans it with her Pokédex. "Pichu, the Tiny Mouse Pokémon, the electric sacks on Pichu's cheeks are small, if it tries to store more electricity than they can hold, Pichu will shock itself."
Pichu seems to have calmed down, but Serena's curious, how DID Pichu get in her bag, as Bonnie shuffles through it, and when Dedenne doesn't fall out, she comes to the horrible realization that this isn't her bag.
The twerps run into the Center to where Bonnie left her bag, and realize that someone must have took her bag by mistake. They ask Nurse Joy who apparently has an eidetic memory and remembers that there was a little girl with a similar bag in earlier who was also with her older sister who happens to be a trainer. she also remembers that she had a red ribbon in her hair.
Ash assumes they couldn't have gone too far, while poor Bonnie places the blame on herself for not paying more attention, but Clemont tells her not too worry, they'll find Dedenne.
Meanwhile, Lyn and Lena are walking around Lyn being amazed at a passing-by Lilligant, and tells her big sister that she wants to be a trainer just like her when she grows up. Lena then runs into an old friend who was going to challenge her next gym in Cyllage City.
Hmm... wasn't Ash supposed to be going to Cyllage City and challenging their gym like 5 episodes ago?
Well, anyway while she babbles to her friend, Lyn notices something amiss. It's Dedenne, Dedenne's not Pichu. Lyn covers Dedenne and runs off somewhere, and Lena doesn't even notice, as she finishes her conversation.
Lyn runs into an alley and worries about what happened to Pichu, meanwhile Dedenne seems pretty fine with everything that's happening, because it clearly lives in it's own world and doesn't seem to care about much.
The Twerps run around the city asking anyone within earshot if they've seen the girl with the red ribbon in her hair, and they all kind of stand around not answering, Serena meanwhile notices a man sort of blocking what they assume to be a girl with a red ribbon, and give chase, because if the twerps have learned nothing in the last couple of hours it's that they clearly only manufacture one of every accessory, also clearly forgetting that Nurse Joy said the girl was traveling with her sister.
They stop him and realize that he was merely carrying a gift for someone, though in one shot it looked sort of like a bottle, so it's probably wine for his romantic night out with his wife, or more likely his mistress.
They let the man go, and assume that the little girl may not have even noticed that she took the wrong bag, and are probably 1/3 of the way to Cyllage City by now. Pichu gets sad, and Bonnie reassures they'll get it back to its trainer as Nurse Joy said she'd inform them when/if they came back with Dedenne.
Meanwhile, Lyn has run off to a park, and questions what could have happened, and asks Dedenne for input, but Dedenne instead runs off while she's not looking, not to find Bonnie, but because it spots a donut truck, Lyn catches up with it, and buys it a donut.
The twerps are still back at town asking about for the girl with the ribbon in her hair, and Ash manages to get a lead from someone who spotted a girl with a red ribbon at the park. Lyn then splits the donut with Dedenne, seemingly taking the switch better than Bonnie, while still obviously being concerned for Pichu.
She then takes a ribbon from her bag, and ties it to Dedenne's ear, and claims they match. She gets a little over her head and begin asking if Dedenne wants to come home with her. But realizes that Dedenne's trainer must be looking for it, and comes up with a brilliant plan - much more brilliant than her previous plan of running off by herself to the park - and decides that if she goes back to the Pokémon Center then maybe she'll run into Pichu and possibly Bonnie.
The Twerps a little too late run up to the park in the area where Lyn was, and she's not there. Clemont then has an idea, but he needs time. Sounds like it's time for the ol' Clemontic gear. Clemont on top of a hill is building his new kajigger, while Serena and Ash wonder if Lyn may have noticed that she's in possession of the wrong Pokémon.
Pikachu and Pichu play together by Bonnie until Pichu notice Apples... I mean Berries. Pichu notices Berries on an Apple Tree, and Pikachu using it's Spider-powers runs up the tree and grabs one for him and Pichu. Ash says that they look like they're from the same family (They kind of are) but Bonnie's still holding back tears about Dedenne, as Serena and Pichu cheer her up a little.
Meanwhile, Lyn's brilliant plan hits a bit of a snag as she has no clue where the Pokémon Center is, and as she looks into a window she realizes she also has no clue where Dedenne is. It ran off on her again, and she has to run off looking for it again. Fortunately thanks to the ribbon she put on it, she's able to spot it in a toy store window sleeping amidst a bunch of Pokémon plushies.
Clemont meanwhile has finally finished with his new invention, it's the "Radio Wave Amplification Device". Despite the name being fairly straightforward the twerps have a little trouble with it, and Clemont explains that since Dedenne can sense Pikachu's electricity if they turn them into radio waves and broadcast them and Dedenne should sense it, and assuredly they won't get a bunch of other Dedenne, Pikachu, Electrode, Magnemite and various other Electric-types swarming to them.
Clemont straps Pikachu into the device by it's electric sacks, and has Pikachu use Thunderbolt, and blasts it into the air.
It works pretty well, as Dedenne senses it, wakes up and runs off from Lyn again. Clemont think it needs more juice, and has Pikachu crank it up. Needless to say this backfires and the machine explodes. The twerps realize they'll have to hoof it again, until Lena calls out for Pichu, but Lyn is nowhere to be found.
Near a fountain Lena explains that Dedenne must be with Lyn, and that she has no clue where she is, but believes that she must be out looking for Pichu after discovering that she has the wrong bag, so they're back to searching on foot.
Lyn is having problems of her own as Dedenne completely oblivious to Lyn's plight continues to run ahead, cutting through a berry field and losing Lyn in the process, until it doubles back as it's being chased by everybody's favorite least-favorite angry bee/wasp Pokémon, Beedrill. Beedrill drives it's ass towards Dedenne and just barely misses it, but rips it's ribbon to shreds. Dedenne comes back with Thundershock, and Beedrill flies off, a defeated and embarrassed man.
Lyn is impressed and Dedenne flexes for her, but Beedrill puts in a call to his boys, and comes back in with his crew, to fuck Dedenne up. Lyn picks up the Fairy/Guinea Pig and tries to outrun the the gang but trips. The Beedrill fly over her about to make the kill, but they're saved by Pikachu's Thunderbolt. It's the twerps and Lena, but more importantly Pikachu ready to throw down with the Beedrill, and Dedenne even gets ready to fight as well. Lyn apologizes for running off, and is happy to see her Pichu.
Then Pikachu and Dedenne (with no help from Pichu) both release their respective similarly named Electric-type attacks, and the Beedrill fuck off.
Lyn meanwhile begins crying and apologizing again to Lyn who's just glad she's safe. Bonnie starts too, apologizing to Dedenne. Not to be outdone Ash's stomach rumbles and he apologizes as well, and Serena gives him an "Oh, Ash, and the studio audience cheer and applaud.
Later on, the Twerps plus two eat a nice meal of Spaghetti, with tea made by Serena it seems. Dedenne and Pichu both look well stuffed without even touching their food. Apparently Bonnie and Lyn have been feeding them snacks again, as they try to sneak off and our caught by their respective sibling.
Will the little girls learn the merits of a balanced diet? And more importantly will Ash get to Cyllage City? Find out next time as the journey is...
