Somewhere in Kalos, a beast stirs, and Team Flare has it cornered and attacked with intent to capture it. It’s having none of that, though, as it easily repels everyone easily and escapes.
Meanwhile, the twerps are still on their way to Snowbelle City, where Ash’s last Gym challenge waits. Something hitches a ride in Bonnie’s bag.
If Alain’s latest adventure is anything to go by, this is surely a familiar creature. A cell of Zygarde, if you will. Meaning that we’ve officially gone…
The cute loogie hops around, eventually landing in Bonnie’s hands as she tickles it. The thing is unable to be identified by the Pokedex. But that’s no problem since Bonnie names it “Squishy,” causing Clemont to note the irony in how she used to get on his case for unimaginative names.
Sure, “Squishy” may not be that imaginative, but it’s better than “Snotty”, “Spunky”, or “Puny”.
Before proper introductions can be made, a stampede of Dodrio run by as a Grovyle chases after them. Grovyle is being chased by Sawyer, who wanted a Dodrio. In the commotion, the green zygote escapes, unfortunately into Celosia’s site.
The twerps are looking for Squishy. At that moment, the Team Flare soldiers attack it, alerting the twerps to the commotion. So now it’s time for Ash and the twerps to have their first battle against Team Flare. A Thunderbolt and a Leaf Storm makes short work of the attacking Drapion, as the grunts sent their Houndoom into battle. Oh, wait a sec…
Should’ve given some Pokedexes to those grunts, eh?
Ash sends his Noibat to attack them with Supersonic, which confuses them. Drapion backs them up, but fails, and upon the Flare Admins finding themselves impressed with how well these kids are doing…
…offscreen, it seems the twerps have won the battle.
Meanwhile, Xerosic is scolding the failures. After which, we get exposition on the little ball of not-mucus. It is a cell of Zygarde, one of two, actually. So, Aliana and Bryony volunteer themselves to catch the two “Z”s.
Meanwhile, the twerps have found a place to rest after their battle with Team Flare. And now Squishy gets to actually meet all the others properly this time.
Proper meeting, not proper eating.
Instead of eating, it goes to sungaze. Or so it looks. It appears to sense some things in the environment, and then it goes to sleep. Sawyer makes a sketch of it. Afterwards, we see his badge collection.
Jury’s out on where some of those came from…
When mapping out a travel plan, Sawyer points out Terminus Cave as being on the way to Snowbelle City. Squishy suddenly gets excited about Terminus Cave, and so the travel plan is set.
That night, Squishy senses the arrival of the Team Flare admins and wakes everyone up. As it runs off, they’re all intercepted. Team Flare is back. As Ash and Sawyer offer to distract the fashionable villains, Clemont and Serena escort Bonnie and Squishy to safety. Bryony corners them, though. Squishy draws power from other Z cells in the ground and becomes a doglike forme. Team Flare retreats from this one as a result. Squishy then reverts back to its cell forme.
As it appears, the day is won, and Squishy is safely in Bonnie’s custody. Bryony decides to report the new Forme to the higher-ups of Team Flare.
You know, Zygarde glowed green a lot, huh? Could this be what Olympia meant by her premonition? Maybe, but here’s another topic to ponder…
