876: Kaze to Tamago to Onbatto!
869: A Not-So-Flying Start!
As per usual the Twerps have stopped somewhere to eat and do other things, like brush Braixen's fur for Bonnie and Serena, while Pancham and Chespin have another fight over which way the wind blows.
Speaking of fighting, Hawlucha is training on a tree because Vince McMahon could give him the call to Main Event Wrestlemania at any moment and he has to be prepared. In doing so, he knocks a tree branch off, but that's not the important part, the big thing here is that Hawlucha has found a glowing egg. The last thing Hawlucha needs to main event Wrestlemania is to babysit a kid, so he's off to...
The twerps prepare to head out, and recall all of their Pokémon, except Fletchinder who decides to perch on Ash's arm and we finally get a sense of scale of Fletchinder's size, and that's a pretty huge bird!
Ash's other huge bird shows up with the egg it found, and gives the egg to Ash, and Clemont claims that you can't tell what kind of egg it is by looking at it, even though most eggs are all colored the same as the Pokémon that will eventually hatch from it.
Anyway, Ash tries to find the nest, but before he can do anything it starts glowing. Ash freaks out when Clemont suggests it might be hatching because he's never dealt with a hatching Pokémon before (sorry Togepi, sorry Phanpy, sorry Larvitar, sorry May's Eevee, sorry that one Cyndaquil that Dawn got from that weird girl from Johto, sorry Happiny, sorry Scraggy - you guys don't count and Ash never cared your births)
The egg "hatches" and it's some sort of Bat think. A Noibat thing in fact, the newborn wakes up and Ash immediately imprints on it. The twerps introduce themselves to the frightened baby, and Clemont happens to mention that Fletchinder's ability Flame Body helped a lot in hatching Noibat's egg.
Noibat figures it's time to do what babies do best and begins crying. augmented with it's first move Supersonic it's apparently super harsh to listen to. Ash rubs the babies ears and it stops crying. Ash who also gets cranky and cries when he doesn't get food figures that it must be hungry, and Serena uses the Pokédex to figure out that Noibat's favorite foods are berries. How convenient.
Like the certified idiots they are they pick what is very clearly an apple and try to feed the relatively hard food to the newborn baby, but it doesn't like it. also, apparently it's Supersonic can tell how ripe a "berry" is.
The twerps later pick a bunch of them, and Noibat determines them to all be crap. accept for one which happens to be sweet. Chespin tries one of the rejects and it is super sour.
Ash then feeds Noibat some water, and then it walks off and even tries to fly. It's eats it and lands hard and starts crying again. It's worth mentioning at this point that the twerps have completely abandoned finding it's nest, so maybe it was trying to fly away from these walking akin sacks?
According to Clemont it should know how to fly as soon as it hatches which goes against nature, but whatever.
Speaking of whatever, Team Rocket happen to be watching the twerps from the trees, and Jesse's all "whatever" about a Noibat that can't fly, until James points out that it evolves into Noivern, and thus Team Rocket's plan is set - capture Noibat and force it to evolve into Noivern.
Welp, now that the plan is set, the twerps are now attempting to help teach Noibat how to Fly, it follows Fletchinder and flaps it's poor overworked wings trying to catch up but almost eats it again.
Clemont has an idea though, maybe they should teach it how to glide first - after all they don't just put a pilot into the cockpit on Day One, or maybe they do, I don'y know, I've never flown a plane, and that's where Hawlucha comes in handy. Noibat follows Hawlucha's lead and takes off and glides for a good while until it panics and begins flapping it's wings like crazy, breaking it's stride, but fortunately Hawlucha saves it.
Ash asks Hawlucha if he has any other ideas, and apparently he does. to go to a slight cliff with a constant flow of wind and try Falling with style.
Hawlucha takes off first to show Noibat how it's done, and it manages to get some air, and before it can again fall to it's Death, who should show up to capture Noibat, and Hawlucha who attempts to ave it but people in a balloon that Ash knows.
"Prepare for Trouble, this balloon knows you!"
"And make it double, it's silly but true!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"We reached down low and grabbed from above!"
"Jesse!"
"and James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare for one flighty fight!"
"MEOWTH, THAT'S RIGHT!"
Team Rocket then flies off and lets their intentions be known, they plan to essentially raise and evolve Noibat into Noivern. Which, doesn't exactly seem that villianous since that's essentially part and parcel of the entire Pokémon universe.
Ash tries to stop them with Steel Wing from Fletchinder, but Inkay hits it right in the face with ink, knocking it out of the sky, right before Team Rocket use a smokescreen to escape.
The twerps clean off Fletchinder's face and send it back on it's way to search for Team Rocket.
Team rocket have apparently developed new teach to protect themselves against Noibat's Supersonic. They then tell Noibat that if it doesn't learn to fly they'll give it the boot, which encourages Hawlucha to show that it can't fly either, in hopes they'll let him free. Though they claim they saw it slying earlier, so they aren't going for it, though it can't fly, so it wasn't really lying.
They look up how to make Noibat evolve, and Jesse whines hoping they don't need a stone, or some other weird evolutionary method to evolve Noibat, though a stone would actually be the quickest way, she also implies turning it upside down which draws out Inkay. (wink, wink)
Speaking of subtle things, Hawlucha is picking at the rope around it's leg as James finally reveals the secret to evoling Noibat... raise it!
Hawlucha breaks it and Noibat's ropes and they attempt to sneak off, but Jesse has eyes on them. James tries to send in Inkay to fight them, but Hawlucha knocks it back with a Hi Jump Kick, and they try to glide off. Hawlucha seemingly forgetting that the baby Noibat can't fly yet and has to rescue it.
Team Rocket then send both of their non-Meowth, non-Wobbuffet Pokémon after Hawlucha and Noibat, who doge all their moves and even give Hawlucha the perfect opportunity to bounce off a tree and deliver another Hi Jump Kick to Inkay sending it into Pumpkaboo's face... chest... whatever.
They manage to corner the two into a very dark cave, that they very dangerously walk into without any kind of light. Noibat, being, well, a bat is able to use echolocation to spot Team Rocket, and direct Hawlucha into them knocking their fake news off their heads.
Once their Supersonic proof ears are off Noibat lets loose with a very loud Supersonic flushing them out. Once out Pumpkaboo and Inkay attack them assuming them to be Hawlucha and Noibat.
Before they can scold their Pokémon, the twerps show up demanding to know where Hawlucha and Noibat are, and they honestly answer that even if they wanted to give them up, they have no clue where they are. The Twerps obviously don't believe this, even if it is true and a battle ensues.
Ash sends in Frogadier who dodges Inkay's Psybeam and hits them with a Water Pulse and Aerial Ace before Pikachu sends them blasting off again.
Hawlucha and Noibat apparently heard the ruckus and show up to a Team Rocket less situation.
The twerps feed Noibat and ask the abandoned baby Noibat what it wants to do - again, it's worth mentioning that the twerps gave up a long time ago of finding it's nest, so it's only other option at this would be to stay behind and die, so it chooses the seemingly less depressing option of going along with these weirdies it doesn't know, who'll teach it to fly, and will they ever find it's parents, and give it up like Goodra? Find out as the journey is...
