Hmm... Well, I can honestly say that I was surprised and also somewhat impressed by the first Master Class episode, but first, let me list all the things I hated about it.
1) Jessie. How the FUCK did she get into the Master Class with only one Princess Key? I can buy the other rivals winning their remaining Keys off-screen, even though I think even that happened way too fast, but... Ugh. Did we even get an explanation for why Jessie was allowed to enter?
2) Miette and Nini losing immediately. Welp, thanks for trying, girls, now let's see Serena, Shauna and Jessie beat NPCs in the second round that's comprised of nothing but still shots to save time and money!
3) The number of Performers. Now, now, I'm not saying that 27 Performers with three Princess Keys (or in Jessie's case, one) each is not a HUMONGOUS improvement over 247, 270 or even 108 Coordinators with five Ribbons each, because it most certainly is. 81 (79?) Showcases a year sounds much, much better than 1235, 1350 or 540 Contests a year at minimum. Yes, I know that Ribbons from previous years keep at least in Sinnoh and presumably everywhere else as well, but even if every single one of those 270 Coordinators in Kanto already had four Ribbons (which we know was NOT the case) and they all needed to win only one more, that would still be 270 Contests a year. Either way, I feel really bad for poor time-travelling Mr. Contesta and Mr. Sukizo. Their lives must be nothing but work.
So why am I complaining about 27 Performers? I wouldn't be, if not for the fact that most of them seemed to be girls we'd already seen lose to the main characters time and time again. I thought the point of having to win three Princess Keys was to weed out the losers? It just seems cruel to me to allow those girls make it to the Master Class after all those defeats and then crush their dreams one final time. Does that make me weird?
Well, now that I got that out of the way, I can say that the latest episode was actually quite good. We got to see lots of old characters watching the Master Class and I loved how Grace bothered to show up in person. Her Rhyhorn and Fletchling watching from her laptop cracked me up. I also loved how not only the people in the audience were allowed to vote for their favorites, but everyone in Kalos could send in their votes too. It reminded me of the Eurovision Song Contest. The Performances were all amazing and the interactions between rivals were great as always. I can't wait for subs to know what Miette and Nini told Serena after they'd lost, even though I have a pretty good idea. Of course, Palermo remained as unimpressed by everyone as ever, but I believe she'll change her mind in the next episode. I don't think Aria will lose to Serena, but she will definitely praise her for putting up a good challenge. If that's not good enough for Palermo, nothing is.
