857: Dedenne Ganbaru! Numera no Tame ni!!
851: One for the Goomy!
The twerps have come to a fast moving river, and naturally decide to take a break right here, right now, instead of continuing to the next city. They release all their Pokémon, and introduce them all to Goomy. Goomy is still freaked out by Dedenne, as Clemont explains again, to anyone who missed last week's episode that Dragon-types are weak to Fairy-types, if the twerps are going to find out what's the deal with Goomy, it loks like they'll have to do...
Before anyone does anything for anyone, anyhow, a familiar shaped balloon comes by and grabs a net picking up the twerp's Pokémon. Serena wants to know what's happening.
"Prepare for trouble, we're happening of course!"
"Your number one cause of twerpish remorse!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"While you wait below, we swoop in from above!"
"Jesse!"
"And James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now, or prepare for one cagey fight!"
"MEOWTH, THAT'S RIGHT!"
"WOOOOBBBBBBUUUUUUFFFFFEEEEET!"
That's right, Team Rocket showed up early this week, and have almost all the twerp's Pokémon, except Pikachu and Chespin, they use these Pokémon to try to attack Team Rocket, but they counter them, even using Wobbuffet, because they must have read my guide from last week.
Sure, that doesn't make sense because the episode was filmed a long time ago, but I'm taking credit anyway.
James uses Inkay to hit the twerps with Psybeam, which in the process disturbs the Mexican Sterotype-type Pokémon, Lotad and Lombre who happened to be sleeping in the River at the time, pissing them off as they start shooting attacks in all directions, but also destroying Team Rocket's balloon, but not before they completely randomly tip slightly, and lose Meowth in the river.
The twerps without actually collecting up their Pokémon, or attempting to quell the Lotad and Lombre cut and run... but in different directions.
That's right, they're spilt up... again.
I'm starting to think the writers may be running on fumes.
Anyway, Serena is with Bonnie, Dedenne, Goomy and Pancham. The girls realize they're alone as Bonnie realizes that they're not...
Meowth is with them. Bonnie reads him the riot act for getting them in this mess, and strangely he apologizes.
Meowth tells them that he'll help them find their friends, but Bonnie ain't buying it, apparently she's watched the show before.
The other twerps finally come to rest and notice Serena and Bonnie's absence and send off Fletchinder to look for them, because that's all it's good for.
Meanwhile back with the girls, Goomy ain't doing too hot as it slides it's gooey body off Pancham's head. Meowth ain't too happy, he had to walk, and didn't whine like a bitch about it. Serena surmises it's hungry, so Bonnie sets off and finds it leaves to eat, despite being currently surrounded by leaves in arm's reach, but whatever. Pancham manages to feed it at least one spare leaf is has hidden... somewhere in it's fur?
Well, Goomy enjoys it and tries to steal the one from Pancham's mouth until Bonnie and Dedenne come back, where it continues to cower from the tiny Fairy Guinea Pig.
Team Toy Boy on the other hand aimlessly yell into the wind at nothing until Pikachu remembers that thing it can do to find Dedenne, and lets off sparks. Again, somehow it manages to shoot straight to Dedenne, avoiding any wayward Shinx or Magnemite in the area.
Dedenne responds, and Pikachu receives, which leads to Meowth realizing his hastily put together plan is fucked. Meowth then hastily throws together another one, as he rubs Dedenne, before receiving another shock. This time he tells the twerps that he can translate electricity, which should be seen as the vapid, and hastily thrown together plan it is, because you'd think without Ash the girls would be smart enough to remember that Meowth is a lying, conniving criminal who speads the majority of his time trying to steal their Pokémon, but SOMEHOW that slips their minds, and the twerps take him at his word, and head on ahead.
These... are not bright children.
With Team Faster Pussycat moving ahead, Goomy now won't stop nibbling on Pancham's ear, Meowth translates this, and it's later complaint that Goomy is nibbling on the sunglasses Serena gave it, which makes Bonnie want to know how Meowth learned to speak in the first place, before he can explain the sordid affair, Bonnie loses interest, which apparently gives Team Rocket just enough time to catch up to them.
It turns out that Meowth was lying, WHODATHUNKIT?
Serena has to take on Team Rocket herself since Pikachu's not around to One-hit KO them. Pancham manages to dodge a few Shadow Balls, before taking a face full of Psybeam, and recovering and delivery a Stone Edge. Team Rocket are rather politely attacking one at a time, instead of, you know, gang banging her and Pancham.
Despite this, Pancham is getting worked over pretty hard, as the resulting fight seems to trigger Goomy's Shell Shock as it remembers it's days in The War.
Pancham keeps up the fight but gets absolutely bodied by Team Rocket, until Inkay hits another PsyBeam that manages to confuse it. Jesse helpfully notes that she can't win this 2-1 mugging by herself, as Dedenne of all Pokémon volunteers to give Pancham the assist by literally shocking it out of it's confusion, which works because of course it does.
As the fight continues, Goomy still has stressful traumatic flashbacks, post it's time on the battlefield, and walks off...? Slithers off...? Leaves.
Meanwhile the girls are too far gone in the throes of combat to notice as they eventually gain the upperhand, and even send Team Rocket blasting off with a Dark Pulse explosion.
Suddenly they notice Goomy is gone, how ever will they find it?
Well, apparently Goomy leaves very noticeable, hard to miss tracks, that Dedenne decides it'll take the lead on searching for it.
They follow Dedenne... or more accurately Goomy's tracks, until reaching a rock wall, where they - specifically Dedenne - suspect Goomy might have slipped into. Dedenne tracks through the rock face as we see Team Rocket aren't quite done for this week. Jesse sits in some slimy ass shit... only to realize it's Goomy. They try to catch it, but it's SOOO slippery it constantly slips out of their hands, as even patiently saluting Wobbuffet has to admit this is going nowhere.
Meanwhile, Fletchinder spots Serena and Bonnie, and alerts Team Toy Boy where to find them, as Serena has to depressingly tell Ash she lost his newest Pokémon already. She doesn't know where it went, it just, got up and walked away.
Jesse stands on the War Vet Goomy, which is a service many people would pay good money for, but is also an allegory for the treatment of War Vets such as Goomy, as James notes from his Pokémon holographic encyclopedia that Goomy eventually evolves into "Goodra", a sort of silly-looking, but more importantly powerful looking slime dragon... thingy.
Goomy manages to escape Jesse's vice-like grip and attempt at capturing it, before getting hit with a Shadow Ball basically stopping it in it's tracks. To Jesse's surprise it didn't attempt to counter-attack, though when James calls it "The Weakest of all Dragon-type Pokémon", it makes it rain... on Jesse.
Well, I guess if you had a choice of which Team Rocket member to get wet, Jesse would probably be a high choice on that poll.
Jesse very angrily proclaims it takes FOREVER to dry all this hair, and in the very next frame calls for Shadow Ball with suspiciously dry hair.
Go animators!
The Shadow Ball is knocked out by Dedenne, who Jesse has trouble identifying as Bonnie's, then again she also didn't know who (or what) Bonnie was a few episodes ago. I have a feeling Jesse isn't really paying attention to things this season.
Anyway, Inkay is sent to Tackle Dedenne, and Wobbuffet counters it's thundershock with Mirror Coat knocking it back on it's ass.
Jesse tries again with their capture cube thing, but Dedenne knocks it out of the air, severely pissing Jesse off, as Jesse and James begin kicking the shit out of it.
Goomy sees the ass whooping it's taking for it, and starts to think that, hey, maybe that Dedenne isn't such a bad guy after all, and takes a Dark Pulse for the little Guinea Pig.
Well, it doesn't matter much to Team Rocket as they now kick the shit out of Goomy with Tackle, too. This causes Goomy to get pissed and form... the biggest rain cloud it can.
Seems like that's all it has in the tank, but this alerts the twerps to their wheareabouts, making poor Fletchinder's efforts absolutely redundant. Poor Fletchinder.
Team Rocket somehow make it through that rainstorm absolutely dry, and as Jesse throws another Capture Cube thing, it gets destroyed by a just offscreen Pikachu. The twerps have arrived and just as quickly as they show up, they send Team Rocket blasting off again, again.
Clemont fixes Dedenne right up, and now Goomy's it's biggest fan, nibbling on the rodent's ear, the twerps wonder what caused this shift in Goomy's personality, but Ash declares that whatever it was it was awesome.
Yes, that time Team Rocket almost murdered Dedenne and Goomy was really, really awesome, Ash.
Pokemopolis Episode Name: War is the H-Word!
Dodgyness Rating: 3/5
Animation: 2/5
Story: The twerps get separated, again and decide to trust Meowth, again... it don't turn out too well. Also, Goomy doesn' handle battle well.
Team Rocket: Turns out they're pretty intimidating in 2-1 Handicap matches.
Moral Learnt: If someone doesn't like you for whatever reason, pressure them until they do. If that still doesn't work, get beat up in front of them.
