The twerps are still in Ambrette (not Cyllage City) Town, and Ash is training Froakie against Fletchling. Froakie uses water Pulse and Fletchling dodges with Double Team. Ash sends Froakie back in with Bubble, and this time it hits. Ash congratulates his Pokémon, and gets a warm applause from a familiar voice. It's Alexa, and she's...
... and with that rack.
She makes note of Serena, deciding to travel with Ash, which is significant since the last time Alexa saw her, she was too nervous to really even strike up a conversation with him. Pikachu and Helioptile start re-connecting, and Dedenne waddles it's fat ass into frame and scares Helioptile, which in turns scares Dedenne and it wobbles it's fat ass on the ground. Formerly fellow fat rodent Pikachu knows how that feels, and helps right the Fairy/Guinea Pig.
Ash asks Alexa why she's here, could she be coming back to take what's in her mind as her rightful spot on the show? Well, apparently Voila bitched to her about losing to Grant back at the Battle Chateau, and told Alexa that the twerps were very slowly on their way to Cyllage City to challenge Grant.
Also, coincidentally she's here to write about the Fossil Lab. What's the Fossil Lab asks Ash, as if dividing by Zero. Clemont explains that the Fossil Lab is a lab where researchers study fossils.
I hope we're not going to fast for him, here.
The researchers made a BIG DISCOVERY recently and that's what Alexa's here to write about. Ash is excited, despite not knowing what kind of a facility the "Fossil Lab" was like 2 minutes ago, and Alexa invites the twerps along, because if there's anything researcher like, it's reporters and their weird friends.
Clemont and Ash are excited, but Serena, being the average 10-year old girl she is, doesn't quite take to the idea of looking at bones and rocks, and would surely like doing something else with her time, like hanging out at Forever 21. Clemont kind of gets in her face about how Fossils are filled with "fun" and "science", the hallmarks of every pleasurable experience for the average 10-year old girl.
Well, I guess it worked because they're all at the research lab, and telling Thaddeus, the researcher who welcomes them, that it's a pleasure to meet him. Meanwhile, Team Rocket are outside and send in one of their flying spy-cam robots from their time in Unova to spy on the BIG DISCOVERY.
Clemont is amazed at all the fossils (in the Fossil Lab), and Ash can't believe they found so many fossils (IN THE FOSSIL LAB), Bonnie is amazed at the displays of the fossils, and Serena couldn't give less of a shit. However, despite how awesome (or not awesome) the fossils are, none of them are the BIG DISCOVERY. Before they go to see the BIG DISCOVERY, Thadeus gives them all Cold Weather gear. Which strikes Ash as odd, seeing as it was pretty temperate when they came in.
They walk into a giant dome-shaped building, and Ash tells us it's cold. In case the snow and ice didn't tip you off.Helioptile has the best seat in the house to listen to Thaddeus explain that this is done for the benefit of the Pokémon, which Pokémon would love to live in such a cold weather environment you may ask... well, probably quite a few of them actually, the twerps run through the ice and snow and Ash trips, and something comes out to greet him, it's a baby um... *checks notes* Stegosaurus... or something type Pokémon, something you'd see Mario ride on in Super Mario World, with a long neck and some sort of jewel jammed into it's stomach.
It's an Amaura according to Clemont, a Pokémon that was believed to have lived up North long, long ago, but is now extinct, except I guess not really anymore, because here's one right now. Suddenly a much larger Pokémon, that may or may not look like a Stegosaurus with a Giraffe's neck shows up. It's Amaura's evolved form, Aurorus. Serena is MUCH more excited to see living breathing Pokémon as opposed to just fossils.
This is actually a pretty BIG DISCOVERY, and was the actual reason Alexa showed up. Thaddeus gives her the scoop, an excavation crew dug up the Sail Fossil (The fossil resembles the sail above Amaura's eye) and restored Amaura and Aurorus from them... and apparently only those two, so they'll eventually die alone, since all their friends and loved ones and significant others are already dead.
Apparently they had very few enemies where they're from, and are very trusting. It's going to be hell when they go into the real world.
The twerps hug Amaura, and Alexa begins questioning Thaddeus as Team Rocket come to realize, rightfully actually, that a restored ancient Pokémon would very much impress the boss, and thus they decide to steal them both.
The twerps continue to play with Amaura, as Serena starts feeling the effects of the cold, perhaps a skirt wasn't the best thing to wear in what amounts to a giant freezer, and they all decide to head back inside, even though Serena's the only one who wants to leave.
And thus they leave the lonely ancient Pokémon, and this gives Team Rocket their open. They blast the doors open, with James big long gun, and James and Meowth are immediately cold, as Jesse goads the overly trusting li'l thing into the back of their truck, that they must have been hiding up one of their asses. James and Meowth try to encourage Aurorus to come along, but it's slightly less trusting than Amaura and doesn't move an inch, even with the duo trying to push it by hand.
Amaura calls out to it in distress and it begins doing the only thing it knows how in this situation. Flinging itself around wildly and calling out it's own name.
It's not the most helpful of maneuvers, but it gets some researchers to run in to find out what's wrong, and encounter Team Rocket. Now they've been found out (or rumbled, which I think is the correct vernacular in this situation), they hop in their truck and cheese it. The researchers try to calm Aurorus and stop it from leaving it's freezer-doodle.
The twerps come by to figure out what happened and the researcher decides that some random assemblage of kids and a big breasted lady are the perfect people to tell that Amaura has been kidnapped.
Thaddeus informs them that they have to recover Amaura... OR ELSE. Or else what, you may ask. Or else Amaura won't be able to keep it's body temperature down, because it's not able to handle warm temperatures, or it'll keep on getting weaker. And I guess die.
Bonnie volunteers the twerps to save it, except they don't quite know where the truck went... well, it went up what seems like the only road into the facility, but OK.
Amaura cries out again, and it's sail turns blue. In response Aurorus' does as well, and it overpowers the weak humans holding it back, and cries out and points to an aurora in the sky, apparently created by Amaura, because it affects the atmosphere with magnetic rays when it cries.
Yeah, ok. Sure.
Aurorus runs off, and the twerps volunteer to go with it, because it's dangerous, and apparently what's too dangerous for the giant ice Dinosaur isn't for three 10 year old kids, one 8 year old, and their magical powered pets, of variant intelligence.
Alexa not wanting to stay with the nerds pulls up the rear and tells them to be ready with help.
Team Rocket are feeling great about getting away with Amaura, so great even that they're not randomly stopping in the middle of nowhere to celebrate, as Amaura apparently tries to keep itself cold, but Team Rocket turn the heat on, because it's making them cold as well, which then gets back to Amaura, as it curls up into a ball and resigns to it's fate.
This also affects the aurora that Amaura was creating, which puts a wrench in the twerps attempts to tail it.
Speaking of wrenches, Team Rocket's rather genius plan of "Steal the Pokémon, and don't stop" hits a snag, as Team Rocket suddenly gets a flat tire and they spin out of whack.
Meanwhile, the Twerps and Aurorus come to a stop at a very shallow river, and Aurorus' calling out gets Amaura it's second wind as it weakly responds and starts up the aurora, again. But Ash sadly notes that it's across the very shallow, narrow and slow moving river, and I guess he doesn't want to get his pants wet, so I guess it's time to give up and go home.
What is he, Fennekin?
Except Aurorus freezes same-said river, and they simply walk across, but Amaura can't keep it up, and faints from exhaustion.
But the twerps have caught up to the perps, Ash stupidly screams at the mysterious people with the van with the very familiar "R" symbol and very stupidly asks who they are.
"Prepare for trouble, you know us well!"
"With our style, you should have been able to tell!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jesse!"
"and James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare for a well researched fight!"
"Meowth, that's right!"
"Wobbbbbbuffffffffet!"
Team Rocket! Ash should have known that they'd do something like this. You know, especially when their logo was on the truck.
Team Rocket won't give Amaura back, and Ash won't let them get away with it, so it appears they're at an impasse, so James sends in Inkay against Chespin. Chespin hits Inkay square in the face with Pin Missile, as Alexa and Serena try to sneak up on the truck, but Meowth is on to them. Serena sends in Fennekin with Hidden Power, which Meowth easily shreds with Fury Swipes.
That's pretty pathetic, Fennekin.
Meowth thinks he's King Shit now, and tells them they'll have to do better if they want to beat him. So, Aurorus steps up and freezes him, and I assume he suffocates and dies.
Ash tries to end it early and sends in Pikachu to use Thunderbolt, but Jesse has Wobbuffet bounce it back, but before Pikachu can get a taste of what he's been doing to Team Rocket all these years, Aurorus blocks it... WITH IT'S FUCKING HEAD. Then freezes the remaining members of Team Rocket, and Pikachu sends them blasting off. Again.
Amaura walks off the truck and immediately collapses again. But before it can keel over and die, Aurorus sits next to it, and lets off a cold mist and cools down Amaura, and it picks right back up.
Somehow the Fossil Lab found out exactly where the twerps and Amaura/Aurorus are and with all the nastiness out of the way, have come to take them back, where the'll live their carefree life in captivity as the only two Pokémon of their species with no friends or family, and can never leave their domed enclosure.
Death may have been the preferable option.
Back at the Fossil Lab, Amaura is back to normal, and happily greets momma, and nuzzles Ash. Bonnie is jealous because she wants to get nuzzled by a Pokémon likely to not fry her brains out, as Amaura enjoys playing with the only friends it's ever known, but soon they must leave it and probably at some point get to Cyllage City, because for the twerps, their journey shall continue.
Poor Amaura.
... and with that rack.
