943: Yorotoshiku, boku, Rotomu Zukan roto
936: Loading the Dex!
Some very important people are seen stepping off a very important looking plane, and... is that a talking Meowth?
Oh hell yes, Team Rocket has arrived at the Alola Region and they are here to do everything for "the greatest boss in all of boss land," which can't be far from the truth if he's chartering a private flight for our favorite trio to a tropical paradise.
In a flashback we see Giovanni briefing Jesse, James and Meowth on the many rare Pokémon that can be found in the Alola Region, as Meowth continue to plot against Persian, fantasizing that it is he, himself being stroked by the boss.
Oh my!
Giovanni then tells them to go and fulfill Team Rocket's destiny, which I guess is...
The narrator gives us a quick recap of last episode, well, more specifically the end of the last episode, in which kukui gave Ash a Pokédex, the narrator specifically notes the shape, because it doesn't secretly look like a Nintendo console.
Kukui prepares to activate it, and goes into his lab, on his giant computer and confobbles with his energymotrons, and declares "perfect," as his lights begin to flicker. Well, I hope he saved his work! (grumble)
He doesn't seem worried though, apparently he wanted this to happen, unlike his poor puppy Pokémon Rockruff. Until finally... OH MY GOD, IT'S A ROTOM! Rotom zips and zaps around the room trying to find some sort of electronic device to attach itself to to cause it's normal brand of mischief.
And woah, what do you know, Ash just happens to be holding a electronic device in his hands. Kukui says they now must wait for Rotom to go inside, though he provides no insight into how he managed to get a Rotom to just show up to his house. Is there like, a Rotom delivery service? Did he already catch Rotom, and it was just chilling in his electrical wiring? Never mind that shit, because Rotom has now entered the Pokédex.
The Pokédex reacts as Rotom gets used to it's new digs. It analyzes things, and begins speaking Ash's language... Japanese! Which happens to sound exactly like English!
Rotom continues booting it's... processors... I guess, and Ash is excited, he can now have a conversation with his Pokémon. He informs Ash that he is fluent in over six million languages which Ash thinks is cool. It's almost like Science is so amazing or something.
Ash immediately exposes a potential flaw in the Pokédex's programming when he calls Rotom "awesome," and this brand new expression not found in any dictionary in the world almost makes him blue screen before Kukui steps in and explains the neanderthal boy's strange dialect, thus saving himself millions of dollars, in trashed firmware.
Kukui introduces himself to Rotom, meaning he somehow was able to force a completely random Rotom to zap through his electrical grid and trap him in his new experimental Pokédex.
Rotom taking it's new enslavement in stride and is happily introduced to it's new captors, and begins taking pictures of them (possibly to send give them to the police later). Ash asks why, and it confuses him by using multisyllabic words, and then introduces itself as "Rotom Dex, Pokedex Rotom version." Which against confuses poor stupid Ash again, so it tells him to just call him "Rotom Dex."
Ash wants to hear how he describes Pikachu, which is weird since Ash has already seen a Pikachu before, but it acquieses. "Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon. An Electric type. It raises its tail to sense its surroundings. If you pull on its tail, it will bite." For some reason, Rotom Dex decides to test it's "bite" theory by pulling Pikachu's tail, and to it's surprise he doesn't bite, he merely shocks the fuck out of everyone in the room.
Rotom Dex is introduced to the rest of the twerps, and learns more words, and even teaches Sophocles the meaning of "consent," as he threatens to "analyze his programming."
This very tense moment is interrupted by Principal Oak, who teaches it the art of PUN-ishment, before Kukui announces they have a Destiny Bond to help him, which Rotom then describes, "Destiny Bond, a Ghost-type move. When a Pokémon faints after using this move, the opponent that landed the knockout blow also faints." Then they run off to catch Ash a wild Pokémon.
Meanwhile Team Rocket are hoofing it through the woods, and intend to catch a bunch of Pokémon. Meowth isn't happy about it because since Jesse and James left the rest of their Pokémon at Rocket HQ, he and Wobbuffet will have to do the heavy lifting. Jesse then uses every ounce of that new animation to inform the others that's it's scary, and something scary could jump out at any moment.
Any moment later, something scary jumps out. It's Pikachu! Cute, adorable, fun loving Pikachu... and then... it's head falls out of place!
Except, it's not Pikachu, it's some odd... thing, in a Pikachu kigurumi.
The macabre... thing, speaks something in it's language incomprehensible to humans, leaving those unfortunate to understand it's dark murmurings frozen in fear.
Jesse, isn't scared though, she even finds it... cute, and then forces Meowth into action with Fury Swipes... to no effect. Meowth, now filled with piss and vinegar angrily tells Mimikyu to take off it' disguise and fight fair and square before pouncing it and revealing what lies beneath.
The mysterious darkness beneath entombs Meowth in it's ghastly aura... and then he appears in a corridor, and there's nothing, until he sees a light at the end of the tunnel. H runs to it until... until...
UNTIL...
...
IT'S HIS (and i'm sure quite a few sweaty internet nerd's) WET DREAM! IT'S GLACEON, GARDEVOIR AND LOPUNNY, AND THEY'RE TOTALLY DTF.
And wearing too much make-up... that part's weird.
Meowth chases the trio, lead by his long, hard... legs, and his pink, throbbing, wet... brain, but little does he know he's being pursued by his worst nightmare. Haunter, Gastly and Gengar, who i assume are their boyfriends, and they're here to fuck Meowth up for looikng at their women.
Back in the real world a very decrepit looking Meowth is shaken out of it's coma, and tells the others of it's escapades, and how he almost had a foursome, until things "got scary."
Meowth angrily points back at Mimikyu, wh now convulces with glee, for Meowth knows only a pittance of the pain it suffers in it's eternal being.
Before Team rocket can put this together, another scary noise spooks them. Why, it's the twerps, and where the twerps are, is a chance to steal Pikachu and give it to Giovanni.
As they wander through, they also come across Mimikyu, at first Pikachu is happy to see another of it's kind, not at all expressing worry for the seizure-like movements it's making (Maybe it saw another Porygon to pin it on).
Lillie sets the twerps straight, it's Mimikyu, if you couldn't tell from all the time I typed "Mimikyu," or that time the show was like "Who's that Pokémon? It's Mimikyu" from like 5 minutes earlier.
Lillie has also read about Mimikyu in a book, but before she can explain it, Rotom Dex rushes in, reminding her this is literally it's main function. "Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokemon. A Ghost and Fairy type. It wears a ragged head cover to look like a Pikachu, but little is known about this Pokémon. It's said that a scholar who once tried to look inside met his end."
"Met his end?"
That means death folks! Meowth stared death in the face and is back to tell the sordid tale.
James also happens to notice the the Pokédex has full autonomy!
Ash, set to capture his first wild Pokémon in the region, sends in none other than Pikachu, first slamming it's head directly with an Iron Tail... only instead of giving the Pokémon a concussion, and possible CTE, it just deflates, shocking everyone Mimikyu comes back and launches a rather Looney Tunes style fighting dust cloud over it, knocking it back, then uppercutting it with a mysterious black appendage from under it's cloth.
Pikachu recovers and shoots it an Electro Ball, that Mimikyu hits back, like it was a baseball.
Hmm, Baseball. That would make an interesting episode.
Oh, well. Enough with things that'll never happen, it's time for what's happening now. team Rocket takes not of Mimikyu holding it's own against Pikachu, and decide, well we can't let a Pokémon that powerful go to Ash, and outright step in the middle of the battle.
"Alright, who are you?" asks Kiawe.
Uh-oh. Oh boy, Kiawe dares not know who the people he's never met before are? Well, there's only one way to solve this dilemma... in the form of a motto.
"Did someone ask something? We're here to find out!"
"Noble answers are what we're all about!"
"The beauty so radiant the flowers and moon hide in shame, a single flower of evil in this fleeting world, Jesse!"
"The nobly heroic man of our times, the master of darkness fighting back against a tragic world, it's James!"
"It's all for one and one for all, a glittering dark star that always shines bright, dig it, while Meowth takes flight!"
"TEAM ROCKET, LET'S FIGHT!"
"That's right!"
"Wobbbuuuffffeeet!"
Rotom Dex isn't convinced, can Team Rocket really take flight? Jesse has to correct him, no, they blast off... uh, no. Just no.
James makes the save by informing it that Team Rocket is a "super powerful evil organization." Meowth insults Rotom Dex, because clearly Team Rocket should be in a index of Pokémon.
Rotom doesn't give a shit about that, however he does seem interested in the talking Meowth, which is of course a very weird sight, that everyone else seems to rarely give a shit about.
The new twerps have never heard of them, but Ash fills in the details, "They're bad guys who like to steal other people's Pokémon." Captain obvious, Sophocles points out that this makes them thieves.
Ash asks if they're in the Alola region to do bad things, and Jesse, sassy as ever calls him a "genius," and also call dibs on Mimikyu, after all, they saw it first!
Meowth, who's apparently had it too good for too long is pressed into battle a second time in the same episode, to his dismay. Putting on a brave face he tells Pikachu that today is the day he comes out on top, and he starts the battle with Fury Swipes, that Ash immediately counters with Electro Ball. Sensing his imminent death twice in the same episode as well, he attempts to block, but is saved by Mimikyu's Shadow Ball.
Mimikyu has chosen sides, he wants to help Team Rocket and not the twerps due to it's hate for Pikachu. It apparently has a lot of pent up anger about Pikachu intends to take it out on any Pikachu it can find.
As Mimikyu prepares the biggest, baddest Shadow Ball it can muster... Jesse and James are picked up by a large creepy looking bear thing.
STRANGER DANGER! STRANGER DANGER!
"Bewear, the Strong Arm Pokémon. A Normal and Fighting type. Bewear has extremely powerful arms, and it's very dangerous. It waves its arms in a friendly fashion, but this is a means of warning. Approach with caution."
You know, it's not often that a warning is built right into the name of the thing. It carries them off to do god know what with them, as Meowth and Wobbuffet are forced to stay back staring in confusion.
Meowth and Wobbuffet try to convince Mimikyu to help save Jesse and James, and it doesn't seem keen on it, so Meowth has to remind him it chose to fight on their side. This seems to work as Mimikyu stops it's attack, and they all head off after Bewear.
The new twerps still seem confused over who the fuck those weird and wonderful people were, and are glum that Ash didn't catch Mimikyu, which may be good for Pikachu, since it won't be able to strangle him in his sleep.
But, there's plenty of other, possibly less weird wild Pokémon in the Alola Region (I guess Rotom doesn't count), and they're all ripe for the picking for young Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town.
What kind of wold Pokémon will Ash catch? Find out next time as the journey is...
BTW, with the move to Disney XD, we get a real ending, not just a black screen like in years past.
