Today’s episode starts off with...
ASH RIDING ON A FUCKING SHARPEDO JET-SKI!
“This is Melemele Island, one of the several islands in the Alola Region, Ash and Pikachu are in the middle of a vacation and they are having and absolute ball!” The Narrator informs us.
Well I’ll be damned, Ash is on a vacation and to be honest he could really use one right now. I mean after saving the Kalos Region from a misanthropic maniac and his twisted visions of a beautiful new world, a little R&R is just what the doctor ordered.
“Alright, full power Sharpedo!” Ash says as the water Pokémon takes a nosedive right into the water.
Ash and Pikachu are amazed at all the water Pokémon swimming in the bottom of the ocean, he spots a little black and pink Pokémon called Pyukumuku and rides over towards it.
He pokes it with his finger and to their surprise the little thing gives them the ‘Peace’ sign!
Even though they were surprised by this, Ash responds to this by giving it the ‘Peace’ sign showing it that he’s cool. His lungs though are not so cool with him at the moment since they want some freaking air! With that he heads for the surface.
Up on the surface we see a young girl with blue hair sitting on a Lapras with a little blue seal beside her and she’s just minding her own business doing a little fishing. She gets a bite and begins to reel in her catch, while only a few feet away Ash and Pikachu resurface from the water.
She reels in a Bruxish which not only startles Ash and causes him to fall back into the water, but it also manages to get free and swim a way.
The girl looks surprised and a little worried, wondering if Ash is alright.
“Made it buddy.” Ash says gasping for air as he rested on Sharpedo.
The girl and her seal both have a little giggle at this scene, while Ash, who is looking a little embarrassed, joins in on the laughter.
This is kind of similar of how he first met Misty, only without the injured Pikachu, the angry flock of Spearows, Ash getting fished out of the water, and the young girl isn’t acting like a you know what giving Ash a hard time by slapping him in the face.
Well it looks like the new series/season is starting off on the right foot so far, and it looks like it’s safe for us to say....
We are now treated to a wonderful shot of a beach, where a ton of people and Pokémon are just having fun in the sun.
“The famous Alola Pokémon jet-ski, so what did you think?” The rental lady asks Ash, wanting some positive feedback that would probably guarantee her a rise and promotion.
“Man, it was super fun.” Ash tells her.
“That’s great! Come back again real soon.” She tells him with smile.
After Ash thanks Sharpedo and gives it a little pat on the head, the next scene we see is a....
......That’s...... some strange shit right there....
Oh, look a cute little kitty cat!
Well it looks like the kitty’s name is Litten and it’s just sniffing the sand and decides the sit there while taking in some of the scenery while licking its little paw.
Litten’s ears perk up causing it to look over and see Ash racing Pikachu kicking up a dust storm right behind them; Ash isn’t paying Litten any attention declaring that he’s not going to let Pikachu beat him.
Then without warning....
Damn, you know that had to hurt.
“Sorry!” Ash says realizing his mistake.
Litten isn’t having none of that though, it’s covered in dust and had its tail stepped on! So, it fires and Ember attack right in Ash’s face.
Burn on you Ash!
After that Litten walks off not giving even a single fuck.... Something tells me we’re going to be seeing a lot more of that little fire kitty. Oh, fuck yes!
Back at what appears to be the hotel that Ash is staying at we see....
Delia relaxing and chilling by the pool... The last time we saw her near a beach was in the banned, I mean ‘lost’ episode, which was damn near 20 years ago, people!
Thank you for giving us this wonderful moment.
“Blue water, white fluffy clouds, and this delicious pineapple juice.” She says taking a sip of it.
Alright show of hands: Who here believes that it’s really an alcoholic beverage she’s drinking?
Also: Who here believes that some guy ordered this for her in the hopes of trying to score while Ash is away?
Well anyway she and Mimie are just chilling until and Ash and Pikachu come running up towards them from the beach.
“I hope you had fun Ash.” She asks her son.
“Sure did! Went diving with a Sharpedo, saw lots of Pokémon I never seen before!” He says full of excitement.
“That does sound like fun, we have Mimie to thank for winning the tickets for our Alola vacation. Thanks very much Mimie.” Delia says to her Mr. Mime.
What happens next is a brief fast forward flashback of how the Ketchums ended up in Alola, due to Mimie winning some kind of lottery back in Pallet Town. We also see Ash dropping off five Pokeballs to Professor Oak...
Wait didn’t Ash leave Kalos with only three Pokémon? Either he decided to keep Greninja’s and Goodra’s Pokeballs in case they might join his team again, or this is a continuity error on the writers part.
Anyway, it seems that this is simply a family vacation for a mother, her son, and their two Pokémon.
This is kind of how the ‘Best Whishes’/ ‘Black and White’ series started out... Why don’t I have a good feeling about that?
“So, shall we change and get going?”
“Where too mom?”
“Why to Professor Oak’s cousin’s place.”
“Right I forgot.”
Ash I am a big fan of yours, but you really need to learn keep important none Pokémon battling information in your head my friend.
Now we are treated to rewind flashback of them talking to Oak before leaving his lab.
“Yes, this will work out just fine, I was worried about how I was going to get this to my cousin in the Alola region, now I’m not.” Oak says as he shows them a brown looking egg in an egg case.
“Wow an egg, what kind of Pokémon is?” Ash asks impressed by the egg.
“You’ll just have to wait until it hatches to find out.” He tells the young boy.
“Awe man.”
“Count on us, well get it there.” Delia assures him.
We are now back in the present and the Ketchums are now riding in carriage be pulled by a Tauros, or as it’s called in the anime a Pokémon Taxi.
The driver tells them that in the Alola Region the use the power of Pokémon to anywhere and everywhere, they refer to those Pokémon as ‘Ride Pokémon’. These are Pokémon that can be used to ride on the land, sea, and sky.
Hey just like in the brand new ‘Pokémon Sun’ and ‘Pokémon Moon’ video games, that are out in stores right now! Remember to put that on your holiday wish list kids!
It will make Nintendo very, very, very happy if you do this...
“So, mom where are we taking the egg?” Ash asks.
“To a place, they call the ‘Pokémon School’.” Delia answers back.
“‘Pokémon School’ huh?”
“Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?”
Does that last comment sound a little strange to all of you?
After the ride, Delia is now considering buying some berries while Ash is starting to wonder off not all that interested in picking out fruit.
He notices a bug Pokémon (Grubbin) popping up out of the ground and goes to check it out. He thinks that it’s cool and decides to get a closer look at it.
Right on the nose, ouch!
Then the little thing lets go of Ash’s nose and burrows back underground with Ash and Pikachu right behind it wanting to capture it.
“Ash look!” Delia says holding up a berry for her son to see.
When she turns around though both Ash and Pikachu are already long gone.
We find the two of them in a forest still chasing after Grubbin, but unaware to Ash and Pikachu they are being watched.
Freaky!
Anyway, Grubbin shoots up out of the ground and dive right into the dirt successfully evading Ash who is now trying to dig it out.
Then suddenly, a berry falls from out of the sky hitting Ash on the head, causing him to stop digging and look up.
“Where are we? Weird.” Ash says as he finally realizes that he got himself lost in a forest, which we all know isn’t the first time.
“Guess we missed it, man that’s too bad oh well; where were, we supposed to take that egg again?” Ash Asks while Pikachu chomping down on the piece of fruit.
Ash.... oh Ash...
That weird thing from earlier is now hiding in the trees and throws some fruit at what appears to be a sleeping Pokémon.
“Beware, Beware” The Pokémon echoes out which gets Ash excited at meeting another new Pokémon.
Then out of the bushes comes a....
I think that it wants a hug...
“It’s waving!” Ash says as he approaches it.
Yeah, I don’t think walking up to a wild bear is the smartest thing to do...
Even if it does want a hug.
“You sure are cute!” Ash tells it as he gets closer.
Most people would be heading in the opposite direction in situations like this one.
Then the all of a sudden, the bear breaks a tree in half with its paw!
Yep, the realization of danger has finally sunken in for Ash.
Ash and Pikachu are running for their lives jumping over rocks and ducking under low hanging branches while the Beware is simply knocking several trees in its way down as it gives chase.
The weird thing zips right passed Beware causing it to come to a halt and looks over in the direction the weird orange thing went.
Ash and Pikachu are glad to have lost Beware, when Ash looks up in the sky he sees a guy riding a Charizard and figures that it must be an air riding Pokémon.
He decides to follow it out of the forest and right before his eyes he finds...
Gee I wonder what this place is...
Ash takes notice of all the kids and Pokémon just running around and playing with each other. He then spots a young girl with blond hair wearing a white dress with a matching white sun hat to go with it.
In front of her are three different Pokémon; the little seal we saw from the start of the episode, a little berry Pokémon, and a chubby little squirrel Pokémon.
Ash is amazed by all of this and decides to get a closer look, so he climbs the wooden fence and walks through what appears to be a race course.
“No lookout!” The young girl screams trying to warn him.
Too late...
Ash ends up getting trampled by the three Tauros riding kids.
“Stop it Tauros come on!” The Green haired girl orders as she stops the bull.
“Are you Okay?” The blonde girl asked a trampled over Ash.
“Oh, yeah I’m fine, actually I’m good with dealing with Tauros I caught some.” Ash assures her.
Well will you look at that, a continuity nod!
One of the Tauros walks over to them, which causes the girl to get scared and hide behind Ash. She looks down at Pikachu and steps back even further out of fear.
“Hey you’re kind of acting like you’re scared of Pokémon.” Ash tells her.
What was your first clue Ash?
“I am not scared, I love Pokémon. At least from a research point of view.” She tries to counter back with.
“I’m sorry you came out of the forest so quickly like that I couldn’t stop.” The green haired girl said apologizing to Ash.
“The thing is Lillie can’t touch Pokémon.” The short chubby boy said holding his little squirrel in his arm.
“I can touch them, theoretically that is! If I really, really wanted too, I just chose not to that’s all” The blonde-haired girl, now named Lillie, tells him.
“Don’t worry, don’t get all frustrated and one day you’ll be able too if you want to.” The green haired girl says nicely to Lillie.
“That’s right.” The blue haired girl from earlier said agreeing with her green haired friend.
“You! I saw you at the ocean earlier fishing!” Ash says pointing at the blue haired girl.
“For Bruxish!” She says.
“You know this guy?” The green haired girl asks.
“I’m Ash Ketchum, I come from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region. This is my good buddy Pikachu, nice to meet ya.” He says introducing himself and Pikachu.
He asks them for the name of the place and the green haired girl tells him that it’s the Pokémon School.
I’m sure seeing all the students and Pokémon running around, probably tipped him off...
“Wow so this, is it?” Ash says in astonishment. Never mind.
Well anyway the green haired girl offers to show Ash around, so she grabs him by the hand and begins to take him on a little tour of the campus.
When they get inside the building Ash is amazed by all the stuff he sees, like fossils of prehistoric Pokémon, students playing catch with their Pokémon, and are just having a great time.
I just want to point out that some of the Pokémon we’ve seen so far seems to be little shout outs to the ones Ash currently owns.
“This is great! Where am I again?” Ash asks with sparkles in his eyes.
Don’t tell me you’ve already forgotten Ash? Dude it’s hasn’t even been five minutes yet!
“I told you it’s the Pokémon School, it’s a place where Pokémon and students study together.” She says nicely to him.
Soon they reach their destination and the young girl knocks on the door.
“Principle sir, I brought a new student.” She says through the door.
This seems to take Ash by surprise because he is freaking out a bit over this assumption, because after all Ash would rather be out and about rather than being stuck in some boring classroom.
When the door opens, we are greeted by none other than Mimie!
“Ash you finally made it.” Delia says happy to see her son was able to find the school in one piece.
“It’s my mom!” He says surprised to see her there.
Right behind her out comes...
I am getting some Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, Don George, and Porter vibes here.
“Alola Ash, welcome to the Pokémon School of Solrock and Roll!” The Oak clone says to Ash.
“Professor Oak what are you doing here?” Ash asks surprised.
“People tell me we look alike, I guess that’s why you recognize me! The name is Samson Oak!” Samson says with a hearty laugh.
“He’s the Pokémon school principle.” The young girl informs Ash.
“Nice to meet you!” Principle Oak says looking like a Trapinch.
I can see a ton of people both loving and hating this gag.
The girl explains to Ash that the principle always makes by playing around with Pokémon names and stuff like that.
Oh yeah, I don’t think that’s going to be getting a little too old any time soon.
Inside his office, Ash is explaining to the girl the reason he’s at the school in the first place, she realizes that he’s not a student after all and apologizes for the assumption. She tells him that she tends to miss things when she’s in a hurry.
Meanwhile Samson has a little video chat with Samuel letting him know that he got the egg safe and sound.
He thanks Delia for making sure that egg got there, knowing that Ash would have most likely forgotten about it.
“Say Principle Oak sir, can I show Ash around the campus?” The girl asks him.
“Of course! Porygon your way!” He tells them.
She takes him to her classroom where she tells him that only do they learn in there, but it also seems to have a great view of the rest of the campus.
“Hi! A big Alola to you all.” A new voice says making Ash and the girl turn around.
The fangirls are screaming their hearts out right about now.
“Professor Kukui.” The girl says.
“Professor?” Ash asks.
“Yeah, he’s our teacher, professor I’d like you to meet Ash.”
“Principle Oak just filled me in, hi Ash, Pikachu, the Pokémon School is a wonderful place. I hope you enjoy your visit here.” He tells them.
They then hear a roar from outside and turn to see a shirtless boy and his Charizard facing off against three biker punks.
“Stopping our bikes the way you did was not the smartest of moves.” The one in the middle says.
“Yeah just like my bro says!” The short one states.
“Team Skull doesn’t like anyone getting in our way.” The middle guy says again.
“You got that right!” The girl adds.
“I don’t remember blocking the road, the only people I can see getting in the way is you.” The boy tells the three Team Skull members.
This guy seems pretty cool.
Ash runs up to the entrance of the school asking who those three people are.
“They’re part of Team Skull, they’re always trying to bully us into a Pokémon battle they’re not nice.” Mallow informs him.
Let’s just assume that she told Ash her name off screen since she never said throughout the entire episode.
Back at the Battle...
“MAYBE if you beat us in a Pokémon Battle we might let you walk away.” The blue haired Skull grunts states.
“Yeah! But if we beat you then that Charizard of yours belongs to us!” The short grunt states.
“You’ll be sorry.” The shirtless boy says in a serious tone.
All three grunts throw out three Pokeballs each making it a 9 on 1 match and....
HAHAHAHA! That one looks like Donald Trump! Plus, it’s being used by and evil organization like Team Skull, wow talk about political symbolism.
The boy looks unfazed by all of this and just glares at the three of them until...
“Stop it!” Ash yells out jumping into the battle.
The others look on in concern for him thinking he’s in waaaaaayyyyyyy over his head here.
You can’t really blame them though, because after all they’ve just met him and have no clue that he’s dealt with evil organizations like Team Rocket, Team Aqua, Team Magma, Team Galactic, Team Plasma, and recently Team Flare before in the past.
“Who do you think you are?” The chubby Skull grunt asks.
“You’re cowards! Ganging up three against one.” Ash Shouts at them.
“Heh, what are you going to do about it?” The blue haired Skull grunt says mockingly.
“I’ll fight too! Are you ready...And you’re...” Ash asks a little embarrassed at forgetting to ask the boy’s name.
“Kiawe, but I don’t need any help.” He coolly states.
Oh, dear god, the way he said that and how he said that... HE CAN BACK THIS CLAIM UP!
“Those guys are really dangerous Ash!” Mallow screams out to him.
Just relax and watch Mallow.
“Pikachu read? I choose you!” He says as the two of them get ready for their first battle in the Alola region.
“Oh my” Kukui says looking a little impressed.
“Don’t hurt yourself.” Kiawe tells him before sending out his own Pokémon.
“Now Turtonator come on out!” Kiawe says as he tosses his Pokeball into the air and out comes...
Yep, Kiawe wasn’t wrong when he said he didn’t need Ash’s help.
“Wow totally awesome! So, that’s Turtonator huh?” Ash asks looking very impressed by it.
“A fire and dragon type, a strong and trusted friend a wise one.” Kiawe informs him.
“Now Salandit show them your strength with Venoshock!”
“Yungoos use Bite!”
“Zubat Leech Life!”
All three Skull Grunts order their Pokémon.
“Pikachu use Quick Attack!” Ash orders.
With that Pikachu dodges the Venoshocks from all three Salandits and scores a direct hit on all off them.
You know that bad feeling I had about this episode earlier? Well it just disappeared!
“That’s fast.” Kiawe says impressed by Pikachu’s speed.
If he’s impressed now, then just wait until we get deeper into the series.
Anyway, the Yungooses and Zubats all bite down on Turtonator’s shell and the next thing you know it causes an explosion!
“What happened?” Ash asks taken by surprise.
“If something touches the spins on Turtonator’s back they blow up.” Kiawe calmly explains to him.
“WOW!” Ash says with sparkles in his eyes.
Can you blame him? I mean that is cool.
“Quick Salandit use Flame Burst!” The Blue Haired Skull Grunt orders.
“Pikachu dodge and use Thunder Bolt!” Ash orders.
It does and well.
Charred Salamanders.
Kukui and the other students are very impressed with Ash’s battling skills, but they’re not the only ones watching this. Up in the trees the strange Pokémon from before seems to taking an interest in Ash.
“I’ll finish this.” Kiawe says coolly as starts to get into a weird stance.
Soon the bracelet on his wrist begins to glow bright red as starts to do these strange moves with Turtonator mimicking as well. Naturally this takes both Ash and Pikachu by surprise because they are about to bare witness to something amazing.... again.
“Alright Turtonator let’s go!”
“Oh no!”
“Uh oh!”
“Could it be the move!”
“The sync of my mind, of body, and spirit; like the great mountain of Akala! Become a raging fire and burn!”
Suddenly Turtonator is surrounded with the red energy and gets ready to launch a very powerful attack.
“Inferno Overdrive!”
Holy fuck these people aren’t playing! I mean damn they’re kicking things up a notch from the previous ‘XY(Z)’ saga Mega Evolution gimmick.
After getting COMPLETELY DEFEATED by both Ash and Kiawe, well Kiawe was the one who dealt the final blow and he really could’ve handle them on his own.
Well anyway the three grunts recall their Pokémon and hightail it out saying that they won’t forget this.
I look forward to the day when meet Team Rocket.
“Kiawe what was that?” Ash asks completely stunned by the move.
“A Z-Move.” Kukui answers for him as he and rest of the students run over them to congratulate the two of them on the battle.
“A Z-Move?”
“That’s our Kiawe!” Sophocles says.
“You were great too Ash!” Mallow tells him.
Well it’s only been one episode and now we have three brand new ships for Ash, six if you’re into Yaoi.
“Z-Moves are special moves passed down through the Alola Region, Alola has four islands and each of them has their own Guardian Pokémon. Only those who participated in the ceremony also known as the Island Challenge are able to use Z-Moves.” Kukui explains to Ash.
“Wow Island Guardians, Island Trials, and Z-Moves too!” Ash says with stars in his eyes.
You can pretty much see where all of this is going.
Anyway, Kukui compliments the two boys on their battle with the Skull Grunts and take notes on how much Ash likes to battle.
As Ash begins to tell him how he wants to become a Pokémon master something small drops onto his head causing him to look up and see the strange Pokémon from before.
“Who’s that Pokémon?” Ash asks them.
The others are confused since they didn’t see anything fly by, so Ash describes to them what it looked like.
“That sounds like.” Kukui starts.
“Tapu Koko.” Kiawe finishes.
“You saw Tapu Koko? Guardian of Melemele Island?” Lillie asks surprised like everyone else.
“Wow guardian? Is that who that was?” Ash says surprised by the news.
Later that night the Ketchum’s are enjoying a dinner and a show, Ash is thinking about the day’s events from heading to the Pokémon school, meeting the students, witnessing a Z-Move, and seeing Tapu Koko.
“Anything interesting happened today? You seem a little bit distracted this evening.” Delia says bringing Ash out of his thoughts.
Before he can say anything, they hear a sound and Ash looks out and sees Tapu Koko flying around in the trees. So, he and Pikachu chase after the island guardian and wind up in front of a water fountain where Tapu Koko appears before them again wanting them to follow it.
Next thing we know Ash is running up some stairs and when he reaches the end Tapu Koko floats down in front of him and Pikachu.
Ash is amazed at the fact that he is standing right in front of the island guardian itself, though you would think that Ash would be used to seeing mythical Pokémon of legend by now.
“Why do you keep coming to me? Is there something you want to tell me?”
Tapu Koko holds out its hand to show Ash a bracelet and then it floats down in front of Ash who notes that it looks like the same thing that Kiawe was wearing.
Tapu Koko nods its head for Ash to grab it and when he does a bright light starts to shine as he proceeds to put it on his wrist. Once the light fades Tapu Koko takes it as a sign to leave while Ash shouts out to it and then looks down at his new item.
THE NEXT DAY!!!
“Professor Kukui’s house is awesome! You know what there’s a training room in the basement!” Ash tells his mom through the screen.
“That’s great, I love seeing you and Pikachu having a good time.” She tells with a warm smile on her face.
“And thanks mom, when I said I wanted to stay on the island you said fine right off the bat.”
“Of course, I did, I am your mother. So, I had a feeling you might ask me that, I was right.”
“WHA!! I gotta go I start Pokémon school today!”
........
.................
........................
........................................... DID ASH KETCHUM JUST SAY He’s STARTING SCHOOL TODAY?!
NO WONDER DELIA LET HIM STAYED BEHIND ON THE ISLAND!!
Yes, it has finally happened people, Ash Ketchum is finally going to school now, and I’m not talking about a summer camp thing like in DP and XY(Z) or spending one episode visiting one either. It took the people of this show 20 years to do this, Ash is now like every other ten-year-old kid out there, he has to go to school! He is a dropout no more!
I wonder what they’re going to do next; have Team Rocket beat Ash in a fair and square battle?
She tells him to have a good time and to be careful as he and Pikachu run out of the house and race each other up the hill to the Pokémon School.
Well it looks likes Ash probably won’t be island hoping collecting gym badges, picking up cute girls to hang with, and cockfighting people like he used too; though the ‘cute girl to hang with’ part is still very much present here.
Anyway, time to see what this new setting has to offer now that Ash will be attending school and staying in one place, at least for now. After seeing what the principle, teacher, and students are like then I think that Ash is going to do just fine there.
At least until that first report card comes out.
Best Wishes Ash!
