Well, here we are gentle Dodgers the last episode of the ‘XY(Z)’ series of ‘Pokémon’ and it has been one hell of a ride. Several years ago when we first saw the sneak peeks of episodes one and two people were a bit sceptical about them and well they had good reason to be.
Just like in Unova People thought that Ash was going to be reset and lose to some rookie trainer and his beginner Pokémon once again, which sadly though has left a stain on the anime that it will never recover from whenever Ash heads to a new region.
Instead though we got the opposite of that and it showed when he battled Clemont for the first time, stood his ground against Team Rocket, and stopped a rampaging Garchomp on live television! This was only the first two episodes; this series took years to undo some of the damage that the BW series did to him and it did one hell of a job.
Which brings us now to the brother and sister duo of Clemont and Bonnie, Clemont the Lumiose City Electric type gym leader and a young inventor who was part of a gag where his inventions would often explode. Though there were a few that thankfully never did, he was a good friend to Ash and the first male companion that was for the first time the same age as Ash himself. He was inspired by Ash’s actions and wanted to be more confident like him and though he didn’t get much screen time or attention after his gym battle with Ash, he more than made up for it during their encounters with Team Flare.
Bonnie, Clemont’s little sister who was just so adorable from time to time and a little easier to tolerate than Max. She would want to just hug any Pokémon that she found adorable and showed promising skills for when she would one day become a Pokémon trainer; not only that she brought back the old ‘Brock gag’ again only in reverse where she’s the one who tried to fix her brother up with a cute girl. Then there her time the Zygarde aka Squashy, which proved to be vital when it came to stopping Team Flare and saving the world.
Then there was Serena, she started out not knowing what she wanted to do with her life like most people do in real life. During the course of the series we saw that she was good at Rhyhorn racing due to all of the training she received from her mother, but it was clear from the second episode that she had no interest in the sport. During the summer camp arc Serena gets the goal of being in showcases and becoming the Kalos Queen, which is basically Pokémon’s version of a beauty pageant, or Pokémon contests minus the battling and the fans get to vote for the winner. The thing that really made her standout from the previous Pokegirls was the fact that she has an honest to God/Arceus cannon crush on Ash! For the first time, ever the writers decided to actually have one the girls that Ash travels with have feelings for him, and it wasn’t left to ambiguity either.
Finally, there’s the Mega Evolution Specials Acts I-IV which introduced us to Alan, Mairin, the return of the Hoenn Champion Steven Stone, and Team Flare. These specials took a completely different route than what the main anime usually does, by giving us a different and older protagonist in Alan who was once the assistant of Professor Sycamore. He had a goal of becoming the strongest mega evolution trainer ever so he can protect those close to him, and in the process, he met a young girl named Mairin who recently just started her journey with her Chespin that she named Chespie. We learned that Alan was an unwitting pawn for the leader of Team Flare Lysandre who used him to gather Mega Evolution energy, and had Alan hope that it’ll help wake Chespie up from its coma, which was how Z-1 Zygarde, or Squashy as Bonnie called it, was able to get free and ended up in the care of Bonnie due to Chespie messing around in lab where it being contained.
All of this came to a head in the ‘XYZ’ portion of the series, where Ash and Alan cross paths for the first time, the twerps have multiple encounters with Team Flare, Ash and Greninja unlock a new form dubbed ‘Ash-Greninja’ through Bond Phenomenon, Serena comes in second in the Master Showcase, Alan enters the Kalos League due to Ash’s suggestion and then defeats Ash in the final round.
The Internet went batshit crazy insane after that one.
Soon Team Flare launched their attack on the city, and unlike in previous arcs that dealt with the regional evil team organizations in the past, this one really took things to a whole new level. Instead of it taking place in an isolated area far away from civilization this happened right in the middle of the city with Lysandre broadcasting his intentions all over Kalos, and had Z-2 Zygarde under his control. He had Ash captured for the sole purpose of using the Bond Phenomenon for his goal of creating a new world, Alan went into a guilt trip that Ash brought him out of and then the two of them battled Lysandre. Elsewhere Clemont was able to regain control of the tower and free Z-2 but at the cost of Clembot who sacrificed himself in order to do so; while over at Lysandre Labs Serena, Sycamore, Mairin, and Team Rocket fought their way through several Flare Grunts so they could reach Chespie. Then they received some unexpected help from none other than Steven Stone!
With some help from Malva, who showed up in the nick of time to lend a hand, Ash and Alan were able to beat Lysandre in battle. Lysandre fell off from the tower afterwards, and it appeared to have looked like a suicide to Ash and the others; Soon the Megalith began to take the form of 50% Zygarde and started moving on its own, absorbed Chespie into it, and then it started heading towards the sundial in Anistar City and if they had made contact with each other than the entire world would’ve been destroyed. Then just like the first ‘Black and White’ games, the Kalso Champion and all the gym leaders showed up to lend a helping hand; with their help Ash and Alan were able to make it inside and save Chespie, thus stopping the Megalith. Then they learn that Lysandre was still alive and was controlling the Megalith with a gauntlet, so Squashy and Z-2 transformed into their Zygarde 100% form ready to kick Lysandre’s ass. Before that though Ash and Alan had their Pokémon destroy the gauntlet on Lysandre’s arm thus causing him to lose control of the Megalith. Then Zygarde fired off an attack that destroyed the Megalith and killing Lysandre in the process, thus saving the whole world.
YAY!
In the aftermath everyone who helped stopped Team Flare were declared heroes and got shiny new medals just like in games; Clemont rebuilds Clembot, Serena decides not to take Palermo up on her offer but she tells Serena that the offer still stands, then afterwards she decides to try her hand at coordinating out in Hoenn, Ash took Goodra back to the Wetlands, and then they had to deal with Xerosic one last time since he wanted to start a Neo-Team Flare just like in the games. Not only did they stop him but they also got to see Squishy and Z-2 again, they tell the kids that there are still some of those evil vines popping up in Kalso and since Greninja can sense them it stays behind to help protect the region. After a heartfelt goodbye from Ash the two-part ways promising each other that they will meet again once Greninja’s job there is done.
GODDAMN that was a long recap, well anyway with that out of the we can get on with the rest of the guide.
We now open with a shot of the Ketchum residence in Pallet Town where both Delia and Professor Oak make their first ‘XY’ appearance and it’s also the last appearance in this season too.
“Come on Pikachu I can’t see if you don’t move.” Oak tells Pikachu who is blocking the entire screen.
“Come here buddy.” Ash says as Pikachu quickly hops back onto his shoulder and greets both his mom and the professor.
“Hi Ash!” His mom says with big smile on her face.
“Have you been well?” Oak asks him.
I’m guessing he knows about the stuff that went down in Kalos with the whole Team Flare fiasco and releasing Greninja, and wants to see what Ash is going to say.
“You bet I feel great!”
Well he did save the world and is acknowledged as a hero and a great trainer.... so, it’s kind of a good answer.
“Hi Serena, Hi Bonnie, Clemont too; how have you been?” Delia asks the three children....
HOLD ON! How in the world do she even know their names? I have not seen Ash introduce them to his mom in a single damn episode; did I miss one or something? It must have happened off screen where anything can happen. Anything!
“Great!” Serena says to her future mother-in-law.
“We’re doing quite well thank you.” Clemont responds back.
“I’ve been having so much fun!” Bonnie tells her with excitement.
“Mom there’s so many things I want to tell you about, I’ll be flying back this afternoon.” Ash informs her which means that this taking place in the morning time.
“Good, we can hardly wait.” Oak says.
“Just promise me you’ll be careful.” Delia says knowing full well the type of trouble he tends to get into.
I wonder if she knows about his recent crucifixion?
Anyway, Ash nods his response while Delia tells the others to come visit Pallet Town soon and she’ll make them a tasty meal. I should point though that Serena is blushing at that comment, I think it’s safe to assume that she probably has the mother’s blessing here.
“Ok let’s get packed can’t forget anything.” Ash tells Pikachu.
Listening to this Bonnie starts to sport a sad smile on her face which doesn’t go unnoticed by Dedenne who can see that she is upset about the group splitting up.
It’s alright to feel sad about this Bonnie I mean you guys have all been through so much together during your journey through Kalos. Sadly, though the time has come for everyone to go their separate ways, but let’s not call this ‘goodbye’ but more of a ‘see you later’ type of deal, because it’s only goodbye....
We now join the twerps enjoying what is either breakfast, lunch, or brunch; anyway, they’re chowing down on the food with Serena bringing over another plate of pancakes telling them that there’s still plenty left.
“Is there something wrong?” Serena asks Bonnie who has barely touched her food.
Bonnie shakes her head with a little fake smile on her face as she tries her best to hide the sadness she’s feeling right now.
“You’re not feeling sick, are you?” Clemont asks out of concern for his little sister.
“I might have eaten too many snacks before.” She lies.
“I warned you that you shouldn’t snack right before a meal.” Clemont says believing the lie.
“Uh yeah.” Bonnie says with that sad smile on her face.
Dedenne on the other hand can see that Bonnie is sad about the group splitting up, soon the others start to pick up on it as well.
While this is going on Chespin is still eating its food and isn’t paying the others the slightest bit of attention, I am going to miss him.
Well anyway the doorbell rings and they all head towards the front door to find Professor Sycamore, Alan, and Mairin.
“What are you doing here?” Ash asks happy to see the trio.
“Thought I’d say hi before we go our separate ways.” Sycamore says with a smile which takes the twerps by surprise.
We next cut to a little video made by Team Rocket that shows the events that went down during the battle with the Megalith.
“Team Flare was controlling the legendary Pokémon Zygarde who unleashed a massive attack on Kalos!” Jessie says in the narration.
“But the only thing that can defeat evil is evil!” James adds on to the narration.
“So, Team Rocket wiped out Team Flare and took out Zygarde while we were at it!” Meowth finishes up.
“And that’s the way it is.”
“Our Anti-Team Flare Victory Report.”
“Is now history.” The Trio says as all three of them do a badass pose in front of the camera.
We then pan out to see that the video is being viewed by Giovanni as the screen cuts to Jessie, James, and Meowth asking him what he thought of their report.
“Interesting; the situation is quite clear the fact is you were behind the complete annihilation of Team Flare, well done Jessie, James, and Meowth return to base.” He tells them.
“ROGER!” They all shout as they salute to the boss, even the Pokémon salute as well.
“We’ll head to Kanto straight away!” James informs him.
“I’ll be here.” Giovanni says before signing off.
HOLD UP, HOLD UP, HOLD UP! Did Giovanni actually believe that those three single handily took out Team Flare all by themselves? I mean the way the video was edited would give off the impression that they were real heroes behind Flare’s defeat, but you would have to be an idiot to think that.
Then again, he probably saw real news report about what happened and knew full well that those three did not stop Team Flare on their own, but they did play a part in helping everyone stop them so in a way it’s well earned praise.
We have to keep in mind though that they covered the crisis when it first started, covered the Zygarde battle in the city, then flew Serena, Sycamore, and Mairin to ‘Lysandre Labs’ to rescue Chespie, took down some Flare grunts, provided back for Ash and Alan when they were running into the Megalith to save Chespie, and recorded the whole thing on live television for whole world to see!
So yes, they sure as hell has earned this praise from the boss!
“YAY!” All of them shout happily together.
“Our video really rang the boss’s chimes!” Jessie says with glee.
“It was worth every recording moment!” James says just as happy.
“These paws of mine are editing gold!” Meowth proclaims with joy.
“WOBBUFFET!” Wobbuffet adds just as happy as it’s teammates.
“Headquarters ho it’s off to the boss we go!” James says as they happily dance off to the airport.
“THIS IS NO TIME TO BE SLOW!” All of them shout together.
Meanwhile back with the twerps they were right in the middle of a conversation with Sycamore, Alan, and Mairin.
“Alan too?” Asks Ash a bit surprised by the news, even though he’s about to leave as well.
“That’s right, there’s nothing as tasking as a journey but I’ll be helping the professor with Mairin.” Alan explains to them.
“First off we’re heading to Frost Cavern.” She happily tells them.
“This is the path I’ve decided to take.” Alan tells Ash as agrees with him.
“We’ve learned this; when the sundial is bathed in the light of the sitting sun it gives off energy, and when we trace that energy we discover a material similar to Mega stones.” Sycamore explains to them.
“Wow does that mean the material’s in the Frost Cavern?” Clemont asks excited about this scientific discovery.
“Yeah and we’ve found the same thing in other places too.” Mairin informs him.
“So, that’s why we’re on our way there, research.” Alan states to them.
Now it’s at this point that Ash notices that Alan isn’t wearing his Mega-ring anymore, and for those of you who have paying attention to the last couple of episodes you would’ve noticed that he wasn’t wearing it after the Team Flare arc.
“Hey Alan what happened to your Mega-ring?” Ash asks him.
“Oh, I borrowed that ring from Lysandre, I gave it over to the authorities to use as evidence.” He explains to both Ash and the viewers.
“But what about Mega Evolving?” Ash asks him.
“It’ll be fine I’ll just start from square one, I’ll find my own Mega stone and Keystone from the ground up. Just like you Ash.” He says as he rubs his wrist.
“Yeah let’s do our best.” Ash says agreeing with Alan’s plans seeing that he’s been doing that same thing since season six.
Everyone smiles after hearing this, I mean Alan has come a long way since we first met back in Act I. Add in the guilt he went through from unknowingly helping Team Flare control Zygarde, and the encouragement from Ash, it’s safe to say that he’s back to his old self. You know the one we saw back in Sycamore’s flashback when he first found Gible.
“When the time comes, we should have another battle. Will you? What do you say?” Alan asks.
“Huh? Yeah!” Ash answers with his fist pumped.
“I’ll see you around.” He says as takes a step forward and hold out his hand.
Ash nods his head and steps forward to shake Alan’s hand in the hopes that they might battle again in the future.
(DEY FORM A HART OMG 2GEVA 4EVA!)
Now I know that we’re most likely probably never going to see Alan again, but I like to hope that maybe, just maybe there’s a small slime chance he might appear again in the future. Keep in mind that unlike in the past were Ash would lose to people we never even heard of one episode before the start of a league and then vanish afterwards, Alan is an established character that we got to know thanks to Acts I-IV.
Yeah it sucked that Ash didn’t beat him; but remember how the last league went? Plus, the ones before that?
Keep in mind that Alan himself even said that Ash was the better trainer given everything that’s happened, and in the grand scheme of things Ash is the true winner here. Also since the closing ceremony was interrupted by Team Flare and everyone who stood against them during the crisis are considered champions of the League makes results moot; take what you can get here people.
Next Chespin and Chespie say goodbye to each other, though Chespin breaks into tears as Chespie pats Chespin on its back.
“Serena thanks for everything; remember the time when you let me know that you would come along with me? That was so nice.” Mairin said smiling up at her.
“I wasn’t being nice a deal is a deal.” She said returning the gratitude back to Mairin.
“Kay I’m glad we’ll always be friends.” Mairin says.
“Me too.”
With that they both do a high-ten, which is something I’m sure that most female friends tend to do.
“So, Alan, Mairin.” Sycamore says calling the two of them over to him.
“We’ll see you later.” Alan tells them.
“Bye-bye you guys!” Mairin says waving at them while Chespie does the same thing.
“You all have a marvellous time.” Sycamore says as he begins to hop into his jeep.
With that the twerps say their final goodbye to the trio as they drive off down the road, and then they start to get ready for their own goodbye.
Once again, we are treated to the sad look on Bonnie’s face as they get ever closer to the big departure, which by the way doesn’t go unnoticed by Dedenne.
At the airport!
“Final boarding call Dragonite Airlines Flight K-91 to Kanto is now boarding at Gate 12” The announcer says over the intercom.
“Hey it looks like your flight is the next one.” Clemont informs Serena as he looks at the flight schedule.
“Latias Airlines Flight H-71 to the Hoenn will soon begin boarding.” The announcer informs everyone.
“Yeah that’s it.” Serena tells them.
“Kay lets go see Serena off first.” Ash says to the group.
Somewhere far, far, far, far off from civilization Amourshipping is laying down on its deathbed knowing that even after all of the hints and the two ‘date’ episodes that it’s going to end up like all of the other Ash ships that came before it.
“Let’s get your boarding pass.” Clemont tells them.
Can you really blame Bonnie for looking so down right now?
MEANWHILE......
“Step on it people!” Mewoth shouts out as the trio run towards their plane back to Kanto.
“Gate number 12, number 12!” James shouts repeatedly.
“You spent too much time buying presents!” Jessie shouts at him.
“Speak for yourself moneybags!” James snaps back at her.
“WOBBUFFET!” who agrees with him.
“Gifts for the boss are investments enough!” Jessie says as they run to catch their plane.
While they were running to catch their plane two little keychines ends up falling out of the bag and take a good look at what they are.
Thus, he we have our first and only subtle promotion for the upcoming ‘Sun and Moon’ series.
Wow Team Rocket isn’t going to try and steal Pikachu from Ash nor try and steal any of the twerps Pokémon? Instead they heading straight back to Kanto with presents for their and not getting blasted off at all; for the first time, ever Team Rocket is getting both closure and a happy ending at the end of series.
Good job guys.
“Everyone it’s time to say goodbye.” Serena says with all the Pokémon out for their final farewell.
Minus Greninja and Goodra though.
“We won’t be seeing you for a while.” Ash tells them.
We then see Chespin crying as Pancham pats it on the back and even gives Chespin a leaf of its own which cheers it right up. Sylveon walks up to Bunnelby and shakes its paw with her ribbons; Hawlucha is trying it’s best to hold back tears while Pikachu and Noivern let their tears flow out. Braixen knew that Hawlucha is trying to play it calm and cool which was why she patted him on the back because he wasn’t fooling anybody.
What follows next is a little montage of all the Pokémon saying to goodbye to each other while some soft, gentle, and heart-warming music play in the background to touching moment.
“Dedenne you got to say bye-bye.” Bonnie says a bit crestfallen as both Braixen and Sylveon approach them to say their goodbyes.
“Dedenne, Dedenne?” It asks looking up at Bonnie.
“Just for a little while.” Ash tells it.
“We’ll see each other again.” Clemont adds on.
“Pika Pikachu.” Says Pikachu.
At this point Dedenne can’t take it anymore and leaps out of Bonnie’s arm and runoff much to the surprise of everyone else.
Dedenne ends up hiding behind a sign on top of a luggage carrier while Bonnie is calling for it to come back to them.
Ash asks Pikachu to sense Dedenne using its electricity for them and they end up right in front of luggage carrier that Dedenne is hiding at. So, it runs off again but Pikachu is still able to sense it and they’re able to find it.
“Dedenne come out I’m begging you.” Bonnie pleads with the tiny mouse, but it’s clear that Dedenne doesn’t want to come out.
It shouts back at her refusing to listen to what she has to say as it starts to shed a few tears.
“I know why; Dedenne doesn’t want to say goodbye to everyone.” Bonnie tells them now knowing the reason why Dedenne is so upset.
“But what do I do? I need you Dedenne I understand what you’re feeling! I know you want to stay together forever because we’ve all had so much fun together! Well so do I! I love everyone too, but we all have dreams of our own; Serena, Ash, and everyone wants to try and make their dreams come true. Sure, I’m really sad, but I gotta be strong... when I get old enough I’ll be a Pokémon Trainer! And I want you to be my partner. I’ll become a performer who’s just as good as Serena, I’ll earn a gym badge from my brother, we’ll beat Ash and Pikachu, and then we’ll be number one in Kalos! So, let’s dream too, we can say our goodbyes and still laugh together; what do ya say?” She says as she finishes her little heart-warming speech.
Kind of Cute that Bonnie wants to grow up and be just like Nando.
After hearing this Dedenne steps out of its hiding spot with tears in its eyes and then leaps back into Bonnie’s arms and apologizes for its earlier outburst, then everyone else starts to gather around the two of them.
“Dedenne you can help Bonnie make her dream come true.” Ash says kneeling down beside them with Pikachu agreeing with him.
“You’ll see we’ll battle.” Clemont assures them.
“I know I’m going to have to do my best or you’ll beat me.” Serena states to them.
“None of us wanna lose to you.” Ash kindly tells them as everyone else agrees.
I know that this is supposed to be a touching moment here, but come on you have to admit that it would down right embarrassing if they were to lose to Dedenne in a battle.
“You hear that?” Bonnie asks as she smiles and blushes down at Dedenne who returns the gesture.
You know this just how it was with Piplup back in the final episode of DP, only this one didn’t take up most of the episode and all the other Pokémon got a chance to say goodbye as well this time around.
“Latias Airlines Flight H-71 will finish boarding soon, ticket holders who have not yet boarded please proceed to the gate immediately.” The announcer says over the intercom.
“Kay it’s time to go; Ash, Clemont, Bonnie you’ve all given me so very much more than I can say.” Serena tells them with a warm smile on her face.
“Pika-Pika!” Pikachu tells her.
“Give us a call once in a while.” Says Clemont.
“You can be sure that we’re all gonna come and visit you.” Bonnie tells her excitedly as Serena lights up at the idea and then turns her attention to Ash.
Amourshipping is now on its back as stars up at the sky ready to go into the deep sleep it knows that it will never wake up from.
“Ash thank you, I’m glad I came with you; you’re the kind of person I want to be.” She says which of course takes the clueless boy by surprise, but Bonnie and Clemont on the other hand understands completely on what’s happening right now.
Amourshipping now has a faint little smile on its face.
“Next time we meet you’re going to like the kind of person I’ve grown into.” She says with a wink.
“Awesome!” He replies back to her.”
“See you.” Serena says as she heads down the escalator as Ash takes a few steps forward.
Oh my, did Serena just confess her love to Ash? I think it’s safe to say that she in fact did! For those of you who might have some doubts then here is how it went down in the Japanese version.
“Satoshi, I’m really glad I started traveling. You are my goal; and the next time we meet, I’ll have become a much more charming woman.”
There you have it people she confessed her feelings for Ash, and that is something to be admired for.
With that in mind Amourshipping now has big smile on its face as it begins to slowly close its eyes ready to die with smile on its face.
That’s it, now don’t get me wrong I really did enjoy this subplot and I’m not going to lie this is pretty much the only ‘AshxMaingirl’ pairing I can get behind. I am not a shipper but come on her feelings for him are legit and there is no denying them, the fact that she confessed to him is good enough to some people and given this show’s history when it comes to romance between the main characters this was a pretty big step and we should be grateful for it.
“Hey Ash there’s just one more thing!” She says catching him by surprise.
What in the world could she want now?
I mean is she going to give him a hug or something......
.....
..........
.................
........................
.......................................
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAY TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
She KISSED him! In all my years of watching this I never even once thought that something like this would EVER happen! This wasn’t no little kiss on the cheeks either, this was full on lip-on-lip action here!
Suddenly Amourshippng jumps up from its deathbed with renewed life and runs outside to climb up the highest mountain and when it reached the peak it spotted a cannon. It may not be a complete cannon but it’s still a cannon and Amourshipping began to fire off into the sky with a victorious laugh.
In another region, Brock suddenly falls to his knees as he begins to cry waterfalls and pound his fists onto the ground. He doesn’t know why but for some reason he can’t help but feel completely jealous of Ash right now.
The reactions of Clemont, Bonnie, Pikachu, and Dedenne are priceless and really help sell the moment.
Oh, if only Brock was here, his reaction would’ve been priceless!
With that Serena lets the escalator carry her back down as her eyes glimmer, face blushing, and a very accomplished smile on her face.
“Thank You!” She shouts back at him.
No Serena thank you! Because you and the writers both went above and beyond here, you have every right to proud right about now.
Even Ash’s eyes are glimmering right now, and if you don’t believe then watch that scene for yourself then!
Well it seems that his wall of denseness just got its first ever crack and maybe, just maybe the boy just might finally get it. One thing is for sure though, he’s gonna get it one day future!
“Take care of yourself Serena, bye-bye!” He waves her off along with the others.
It’s fun to point out that Bonnie did a little ‘way to go’ gesture when she was waving goodbye to Serena.
#Bonnieknows
We now cut to the roof of the airport as Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie watch as Serena’s plane fly off to Hoenn Region were a new chapter of journey awaits her.
“Well there she goes.” Clemont says to Ash.
“Serena gotten really strong so she’ll be fine and she’ll get a lot stronger in Hoenn.” Ash informs him.
“She sure will and I’ll work hard to be an inventor, and inventor who will make Pokémon Happy.” Clemont says full of confident with Ash supporting him on this.
Clemont then tells Ash that there’s still some time left before his flight back to Kanto and he asks a small favour of him before they part ways, it’s something that Clemont really wants to do.
Is Clemont going to confess his love for Ash as well?
To the disappointment of all the Doidshippers it turns out that he wants one last Pokémon battle with Ash.
Ash chooses Pikachu and Clemont chooses Bunnelby so in other words they are having a homage of their first match from the very first episode of XY.
Though we don’t get to see the results of the battle, it’s safe to say that it’s better that way because it was nice little bookends moment for the two of them.
After that Clemont and Bonnie watch as Ash’s plane fly off into the sunset, as stand there smiling and remembering all the great memories they had with him and Serena.
Speaking of whom, we now cut to Serena who just arrived in Hoenn and we are treated to little montage of all the obstacles she’s been through during her Journey in Kalos. Then we see Serena with a determined look on her face ready to face whatever challenges that comes her way; I look forward to her special episode or the day she might pop up in ‘Sun and Moon’.
Back in Kalos at the Prism Tower Clemont is busy creating a brand-new invention with both Bonnie and Clembot right there with him. Once again, we are treated to more flashbacks but this time involving all the things that both Clemont and Bonnie experienced throughout the series.
Then for the last time Clemont’s intention explodes in his face giving both him and Bonnie smoked afros.
Fun fact kids, those two are going to have a little run-in with an old friend of Ash.
At Sycamore’s lab, the professor is busy introducing the three starter Pokémon to a new trainer, then one of his assistants informs that he has an incoming video message from Alan and Mairin.
We see that they’re in Frost Cavern now and discovered the material the sundial was pointing towards.
I hope that Ash and Alan will get to battle again in the future, because there’s a chance the outcome might be different this time. Either way it will be one hell of a battle when they clash once again.
Next, we cut over to the remains of ‘Lysandre Labs’ where Steven Stone is talking to Sawyer who is jotting down notes for his idol, and who knows they might come in handy for the young trainer in the future.
Out in a forest is Tierno, Shauna, and Trevor watching some of the Pokémon there play and interact with each other as Trevor takes pictures of them.
Out in the Wetlands Goodra is busy settling a small dispute between a Wooper and Lotad, with Florges and Floette watching from behind. Here’s to seeing that big goo ball again in the future everyone!
While elsewhere one of the remaining vines from the Megalith is seen popping up out of the ground but it’s suddenly whacked like the weed it is by Greninja while Squashy and Z-2 watch from a tree-branch.
I hope to God that they reunite Ash and Greninja again someday because, if they could bring Charizard back for a region (and not him do anything) then I’m sure they could do the same for Greninja once it’s done with its job in Kalos. Until then though....
Bye-bye (Ash)Greninja, we’re really gonna miss ya!
Bye-bye (Ash)Greninja, we’re really gonna miss ya!
You’re 5,000 candles in the wind!
Now finally gazing out the window from their seat, Ash and Pikachu are remembering everything that they’ve been through in Kalos, from meeting Serena, Clemont and Bonnie, befriending and capturing his Kalos team, his gym battles, seeing all of Serena’s Showcases, meeting his rivals, finding Squashy with his friends, mastering the Ash-Greninja form, his league battles with Sawyer and Alan, and standing alongside the gym leaders, champions, and his friends as they confront Lysandre and his Megalith. Let’s not forget his goodbye to Greninja who he hugs and promises to meet again someday.
All of this is presented in a nice montage as both the ‘Pokémon Theme Song’ and ‘Be a hero’ plays in the background of these moments.
Yes, it’s safe to say that this was the best region that has ever happened to Ash, we saw how he grew in his skills, he more mature than he was back in Unova, and even though he still lost he managed to come in second place at the league which is by far the best placement we’ve ever seen he’s ever been in when it comes to a regional tournament.
Also, he even got the full French experience with the culture, the fashion, the food, the ladies, and of course the romance.
So, with that we can say Au Revoir to Kalso and XY(Z)
It’s night time now as Ash and Pikachu stand on top of a hill overlooking Pallet Town.
“We’re finally in Pallet Town.” He says happy to be home again and running down the road that leads to his house.
He approaches his house to see that the lights are still on and that his mom is sill up waiting for him, as he approaches the door we get a nice little shot of some Baby’s-Breath Flowers growing in front of his house.
“I’m home!” Ash says as he walks inside and closes the door on another exciting adventure.
With that we are now done this series, now to some people this feels like a good place for them to end the anime. Who can blame them? The way things were wrapped up and the closure everyone got does give off a ‘The End’ vibe here.
Hey if some people want to call it a day here then it’s cool, and if some wants to stick around and see how the next series turns out that’s cool as well. Because at the end of the day it’s their choice to make and theirs alone.
There will be people who will say that ‘it sucks and you shouldn’t watch it’ and there will also be people who will say that ‘it’s really good you don’t know what you’re missing’. In the end though whether or not you like the next series is up to you and you alone, because what shows up next is something that rings true to not just this fanbase but for everyone in general.
Alola ‘XY(Z)’.
