898: Pikachu, Puni-chan no yume o miru!
891: Dream a Little Dream from Me!
The twerps decide to camp out, in the middle of nowhere as is their want, and Ash suddenly decides he wants to see a Shooting Star. Clemont informs him that tonight is the night of the New Moon, so he's sure they'll see lot's of them... I... I don't recall the New Moon being particularly associated with Shooting Stars, is that a thing? Suddenly I feel inadequate as my intelligence is being tested by a children's cartoon.
Well, anyway Serena tells them they'll have to make a wish, which I know is a thing, so I'm comfortable again, because my intelligence isn't being tested by a children's cartoon, Bonnie promises to make a bunch of wishes, and so does Ash.
Later in the night, Serena sees the first shooting star, but the other twerps miss it, then suddenly a bunch fly by, and they make their wishes. Ash wants to meet many new strong trainers, Serena wishes to win her third princess key, and surprisingly not to jump Ash's bones, Bonnie wishes to become a trainer soon, and that Clemont will meet him a nice pretty young thang sooner than later, and Clemont having clearly not thought about it, just wishes everyone else's wishes come true, but Bonnie tells him he has to do better than that, he has to...
As the twerps prepare to go beddy-bye, Clemont winds up his newest invention... an Alarm Clock.
Clemont, you're kind of slipping here, bud.
As the twerps sleep, Squishy gets ejected from it's spot by Dedenne, and then opts to run off into the woods.
Meanwhile, Meowth can't sleep, because Jesse and James are snoring SO DAMN LOUD! So he solves the problem by using comically large earplugs, then counts Mareep.
Squishy continues on, and hops up a tree just overlooking the twerps. Suddenly a Darkrai with nothing better to do just kind of...floats by, and that's the end of that. It's next morning, and Pikachu wakes to see the twerps are still sleep.
Lazy chumps.
Meowth continues counting Mareep and has apparently given them corporeal form, until he wakes up and they were totally a figment of his imagination. He gets thirsty and heads off to find some water.
And by strange coincidence Pikachu is drinking from a nearby river when... he hears a voice, and looks up to see a Diggersby, Delphox and Fennekin come to him and... they're talking.
Pikachu has no idea what the fuck is going on right now, and Delphox is confused, they've ALWAYS been able to talk.
The talking Pokémon think Pikachu's weird, and freak him out into running off.
Meowth has also realized that something is off. Pikachu wakes up Ash, and suddenly he's speaking like he's Frogadier.
Meowth tries to alert Jesse and James to what's going on, and their speaking as if their Wobbuffet and Inkay. Meowth freaked out then runs off, pursued by the other two. He shakes them, by running into a bunch of tall grass, but he must have a repel, and while he doesn't encounter any Rattata, he does encounter Pikachu.
Meowth is relieved that at least Pikachu is normal, until suddenly Squishy peaks out at them from behind the tall grass. He begins speaking as an English gent from England, referring to them as "The young man's Pikachu, and Meowth from Team Rocket." Astonishing the both of them. Squishy calls Meowth on the fact that he can always speak, at which point a giant fire starts poking through the woods.
Meowth asks what's going on, at which point Squishy refers to the fire as an "it" presuming that it's not a regular fire, but some sort of living thing? Anyway, Squishy wants to get the hell out of there, and as he hops on Pikachu's back, suddenly a giant Angry Sun, like from Super Mario Bros. or whatever peers out at them.
Boy, that's old school, remember when each of these guides used to feature a reference to Super Mario Bros? And came out on time? No? I'm sorry.
My own inadequacies aside, this giant fire monster begins spitting hot fire at them. As they run Meowth figures that they'll be safe if they just hand squishy over, but Pikachu ain't having that.
They run to a river and as far as the Scratch Cat Meowth is concerned, they're finished. There's no way they can surmount this obstacle, might as well lay on their backs with their legs spread eagle, so the fire monster can finish them off now and save themselves all some time.
Well, the two who aren't genetically pre-disposed to hating water decide to just swim across, and well, Meowth doesn't want to die on his back ALONE, so he eventually gets it together, and swims across as well.
Once safely across from the fire monster who, suddenly can't just fly over the water, Squishy thanks "the young man's Pikachu and Meowth from Team Rocket".
Meowth from Team Rocket asks what's up with that fiery mofo, but Squishy instead insists on telling them that it's trying to catch him, and refusing to give details.
Well, that strategy has never failed in the past.
Actually that's not true, Squishy has no idea why it wants him, he just knows that it's not good, and something not gooder will result.
He then angrily protests that he wants to be taken back home, and then babbles something about his power not fully returning.
He then takes advantage of the two Pokémon's confused state and tells Meowth and Pikachu to touch him.
HEEEEY!
They touch his head.
awwww.
And he starts vibrating!
And then shows them something so awful that they get shook out of their sleep.
Pikachu starts screaming at the twerps, and they notice that Squishy is missing, so Pikachu runs to find it, while the twerps in tow behind him, and Darkrai's straight chilling watching over them.
Meowth from Team Rocket meanwhile tries sleep scratching up a tree, to no avail, before being awoken by Jesse and James.
Jesse tells him to cool it, since it was just a dream, but he refuses to believe that's all that it was, and runs to find Squishy.
Pikachu and Meowth end up running into some tall grass, because they've played the games before and know that's the best way to encounter wild Pokémon, and... encounter each other... again, knocking themselves out, giving Darkrai an opening to do his weird Darkrai thing.
And thus they wake back up in the dream world, in the same place as before. Squishy then appears from the grass, and reads them the riot act, while being pursued by the Fire Monster again.
They seems to have lost it, but Squishy informs them that they have to keep going, and off they are again. They eventually come to a burned and devastated section of forest, and Squishy believes the Fire Monster did this to catch him.
Gee, a little vain aren't we?
He then uses his weird powers to reforest the deforested forest.
Meowth is amazed and asks what is he, and Squishy predictably answers as cryptically as possible by saying "I am I".
He then command them to soldier on, because once they past the forest he'll be almost home. Just then a bunch of dark clouds begins following them, which I assume is an omen. Meowth from Team Rocket takes some solace in the fact that Squishy can just transform into that horrifying visage he showed them previously, right? Right?
Well no, not unless he can get home. but if they can get home in time then there's No Need to Worry.
Unfortunately there's very many needs to worry, as Hothead has beat them to their destination and is now in front of them, and they now have to fight. Meowth is unsure of how they can fight, what fire with fire? And they don't have any Water-types around, so they're finished.
Or are they?
Squishy implores them to fight, and Meowth gets his ass lit on fire... literally, by the fire monster. Pikachu tries to hit it with Quick Attack, and fly straight through IT'S ass... and gets HIS ass lit on fire.
Ah, an Ass man... err... monster it seems.
Pikachu tries hitting it with a Thunderbolt, but it dodges, and Pikachu has no choice but to retreat. Then suddenly his freaky talking friends show up, and they promise to do the battling from here on. Froakie starts with Water Pulse and hits it head on and Delphox for some reason follows up with Flamethrower, somehow hitting the living monster made of fire with fire didn't put an end to the monster made of fire.
It then spits fire at them, which I'm sure is not a Pokémon attack, and Diggersby deflects it until it gets hit with a direct blast and... de-evolves.
Suddenly Pancham and Chespin show up and decide to take it from here, but even in a dream Chespin's a jerk and steals Pancham's food, pissing him off enough to evolve, and Chespin responds in kind, and right now in the middle of this huge fight with a fire goblin they decide it's time to fight each other.
Pikachu tries to calm them down, and we get the 5,000th mention of the fact that Pikachu won't evolve, not even i this dream, where he could easily change back.
Poor Raichu everywhere.
The Fire [insert synonym for monster] starts spitting more fire at them, and they come to a uneasy truce, and the three attack turning the Hothead into a bunch of Lil' Sparkies, if we're continuing the Super Mario references, and they get scared then suddenly a very loud alarm clock starts ringing, and suddenly...
EXPLOSION!
Everyone wakes up, including Squishy and they all talk about that huge explosion. Meowth after waking up next to Pikachu runs back to Team Rocket babbling about the dream, and Jesse and James have no idea what the fuck he's talking about.
Also, it turns out the explosion was Clemont's alarm clock, he doesn't think he can handle another failure, but "The Young Man" tries assuring him that the alarm would have woken them, right?
Bonnie comes back with Squishy and suddenly everyone notices Darkrai, who's just been hanging around all this time, and finally decides to fly off, never to be seen again.
What did that dream all mean? Who the hell knows, looks like we'll find out when the journey is...
