822: Challenge the Battle Chateau! Viola vs. Zakuro!!
815: Breaking Titles at the Chateau!
As the twerps take a rest in a Pokemon Center, we open with Serena introducing the Battle Chateau to Ash, knowing how much he likes battling. So, let’s all see if he really will be…
It’s a mystery what the reward is for ultimate victory there, but that’s good enough for Ash, who hopes it’ll be a special badge. Bonnie hopes it’ll be a cake.
Soon, they are accosted by a pair of gangsters who speak in “YoY o-ese”, which Serena guesses is a form of rapping.
Served!
Ash’s request for them to explain what they meant by their “Noble Title” remark they introduced themselves with is turned down by them saying it’d be a pain to explain, yo. And so the twerps are invited to go with them to the Chateau, yo.
As soon as the second “yo”, this got old. They’re no Riley Freeman, that’s for sure.
The so-called cool kids introduce themselves to the twerps. Niko and Fletchinder, and Chester and Fletchling are their names. The twerps introduce themselves, and then get on their way.
Oh, look, they’re talking normally! Serena’s also relieved.
“Battle Chateau: Show Your Strength With A Title”, Clemont reads off the Chateau’s front gate.
Niko is welcomed back to the Chateau as a Baron, as that’s his rank. Chester is to make his debut, as is Ash. Duke Turner gives them all a tour of the Chateau, explaining all of its works and operations.
Whoo… lots to pick from. Too bad Ash would have to be the same rank as whoever he’s challenging. While pondering that, we are introduced to…
A wall-climber named Grant. He’s sure to be important somehow.
But enough of that; Baron Niko issues a challenge which is accepted by fellow Baron Farrel. As everyone gathers on the balcony to watch the battle, a familiar face enters the Chateau.
Before that, though, another history lesson. The white capes Barons wear during battle date back to when the Chateau was founded on the principle of a knights’ duel, in which it was more than just moves that made a battle what it was.
Then those Gym Battles came along and stole all the thunder.
We then learn the Chateau’s titles: Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquis, Duke, and Grand Duke. What about the female titles, though??
Battle is about to commence, with a possible promotion to Viscount on the line for Niko as he’s won nine consecutive battles before this. Niko begins with Fletchinder and Farrel begins with Dusknoir.
Fletchinder’s Flame Charge goes right through Dusknoir without doing any damage whatsoever. Dusknoir reappears and lands a Thunderpunch on the fiery bird. But it pulls up and lands that Flame Charge after all.
On the sidelines, that familiar face from earlier taps Ash on the shoulder. It’s Viola, Kalos’s first Gym Leader, here to observe a battle. As it turns out, she’s a Duchess, the female equivalent of Duke.
Saved Chester the trouble of explaining that one…
Back at the battle…
Oh, never mind. It ended offscreen.
And that’s ten for Niko, who is now a Viscount.
Suddenly, the wall-climber Grant falls off the wall, having applauded Niko’s victory. Ash is unable to challenge him, since he’s a Duke. But don’t aorry; Ash won’t be leaving here without a battle, which will be coming up after these messages…
Whoever wins this fight will become a Baron. Ash leads with Pikachu while Chester leads with Fletchling. Fletchling dodges Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Electro Ball with Agility. Pikachu’s Attack gets lowered with a Featherdance, which causes Pikachu’s Iron Tail to be as powerful as a slap on the wrist. Pikachu gets into a mid-air Iron Tail clash with Fletchling’s Steel Wing, opting to whittle away at Fletchling’s endurance (read: HP). And Thunderbolt finishes the fight. Ash is now a Baron.
Now he gets a white cape of his own.
As Viola is about to take a picture of the twerps to commemorate Ash’s victory, she receives a challenge from Grant. Ash lets out all his Pokemon to watch the battle between the two high-rankers. Viola sends out Surskit and Grant sends out Onix. Onix’s Rock Tomb nearly stops Surskit’s ice skate strategy, and the two get into a Signal Beam/Flash Cannon grapple. It explodes, and Onix Rock Polishes itself to lightning speed. An Ice Beam to its tail doesn’t stop it from using another Rock Tomb attack to trap Surskit and put it in range of another Flash Cannon. Grant is now a Grand Duke.
Ash is itching for the chance to battle the new Grand Duke. Fortunately, he won’t have to wait until he becomes a Grand Duke himself, because Grant is the Cyllage City Gym Leader. Ash sets off to the Gym, and the journey is…
