Unfortunately, Twinklepaws won’t be part of the show.

Question 2: Why not? Answer from Serena: “I’d like you to watch us do our very best.”

Question 3: Who will look after Twinklepaws for Serena? Answer:--

Not Chespin, that’s for sure. The answer is Bunnelby.

It is now time for the Anistar Pokémon Showcase to begin!

As Serena and Shauna put on their (insert name of any college/public school with red and gold as their colors here) grad gowns and caps, they meet up with eternal puckerer Nini.

Well, good thing Nini doesn’t have this in common with one of her star Pokémon…

Nini, Lily, and Serena are first up, and their first round is the eponymous quiz. Three right answers is the ticket to the next round, and it’s up to their Pokémon to get them the chance to answer a question. Whoever finds the pearl hidden in the boulders and brings it back to the stage first gets to have their trainer answer.

Question 4: Who came and convoluted a pop quiz?? Answer: It’s a rhetorical question.

So the race is on between Pancham, Farfetch’d, and Solrock in order to see who will answer the question about which of Eevee’s evolutions is Fairy-type.

Question 5: Wow, starting off easy, huh? Answer: Rhetorical question.

Farfetch’d manages to reach the stands first by virtue of Pancham fumbling the ball. And it amounts to…

A wrong answer from Nini, who somehow confuses Psychic for Fairy by answering “Espeon”.

Question 6: What Internet slang term best describes this moment? Answer: Epic fail.

Because of the aforementioned fail, Serena gets to steal the chance to answer. She gets it right and moves on to the second question, which is about what Gloom can evolve into besides Vileplume. Pancham makes it back first to give Serena the chance to correctly answer “Bellossom”. Round three’s question is a weight matter about who is heavier between Ursaring and Exploud. For once, a pro question, which Nini gets right by answering “Ursaring”. Guess pro questions are her forte… The question about Trevenant’s type other than Grass is correctly answered “Ghost” by Serena. And with that, Serena wins the quiz round.

Serena promises to win the Showcase for both herself and Nini, a vow Pancham echoes to his fangirl.

The second bracket of quiz contestants is up, and it’s between Shauna,

Question 7: Who was Shauna competing with in that round??? Answer: Of course it’s not answered.

Question 8: Who’s that Pokémon?

Answer: It’s Gloom!

Now it’s time for the last bracket, consisting of Jessie,

I asked this question already, so let’s move on.

Jessie wins, by the way, making her a finalist along with Serena and Shauna. The latter two promise not to hold back during the Freestyle Performance.

Shauna’s up first, having dressed her Ivysaur up like a cake (though from a distance, he looks like something that’d be walking right into a drug joke I decided not to make) and her Flabébé up hardly at all. A Fairy Wind/Vine Whip combo is her chosen appeal.

Jessie is next up…

Question 9: What are you all wearing?! Answer: Rhetorical.

Part of the act is a use of Seed Bomb from Gourgeist, which creates fireworks. Unfortunately, there’s a Pokémon who’s afraid of loud noises in the audience. Twinklepaws runs off and hides under the benches in the lobby. Serena risks disqualification to go look for Twinklepaws, lucking out when the receptionist goes to get the performance order switched. Eventually, Twinklepaws comes out of hiding once she notices her trainer looking for her and wishes her trainer luck.

Time for the final round, with Twinklepaws safely in the audience. A Flamethrower and Arm Thrust combo followed by a dance apparently taught to them by Twinklepaws wins the showcase for Serena. And in a landslide.

Two Princess Keys, one to go.

Twinklepaws is the first to congratulate Serena on her victory. As she receives praise from her friends, Jessie stomps away complaining about Kalos’s lack of taste. Now that one Anistar City objective is done, it’s time for the other. Shauna and Tierno have to leave to bring Trevor’s misplaced supplies back to him, so it’s down to the usual Twerp group.

Pokemopolis Episode Name: Twinklepaws Part 3 - Who Wants to be a Kalos Queen?

Dodgyness Rating: 3/5

Animation: 4/5

Story: The shy dancing Eevee is introduced to Pokemon Showcases. But only as a spectator for now.

Team Rocket: Loses another Showcase.

Moral Learnt: Kalos has lots of taste, and also no taste at all.

She didn't confuse Psychic for Fairy, she just confused the species. Also remember when Ash made a comparison between Sylveon's and Espeon's appearance?

And why are you still referring to Shauna's Ivysaur as a "he"? Cause of its dub voice? TPCI doesn't know Ivysaur's gender, so they give it the voice they give to every Ivysaur and Ivysaur has always been voiced by a guy in the dub. But if it turns out Shauna's Ivysaur is female (which is sort of being hinted at) then TPCI is going to regret giving it that voice, because TPCI gives a feminine voice to Pokémon who they usually give a masculine voice to if they're a girl and vice versa.

I thank you all for your time here, even if there wasn't much going on. But now it's time to move on...

It's human nature to assign one's own gender to something that hasn't yet had a gender confirmed. Not to mention that I never, ever did like it whenever the anime referred to a Pokemon as "it" when referring to one by something other than a name.

In other news, there was a problem I had with this episode's Japanese version that I was very happy to see fixed: the way-too-tense BGM for when they were looking in the lobby for Eevee. I know Serena risked being disqualified, but sheesh, the original Japanese BGM made it seem like lives were at stake. You'd think Gourgeist's Seed Bomb had set the place on fire or something (for the record, that was my actual thought when I first saw it in Japanese). The dub BGM calmed it down, but still kept it suspenseful.

Oh, also, Eevee had no dub voice this time. That was a relief, too.

I don't know why they added dub voice clips for Serena's Eevee before, when her Japanese voice is similar to the ones in the Best Wishes series.

The only time I understood dubbing over an Eevee's voice was May's Eevee, because it really didn't sound like it was saying any part of its name.

The dubbed version of this episode wasn't as bad as I feared. So Serena won her second Princess Key, good for her. I'm not sure if I would have voted for her, because she used the same two Pokémon as before and her performance was only slightly different from last time, but I suppose her fans don't really care about that. Shauna used the same two Pokémon too, which I found weird, because unlike Serena, she most definitely has more options to choose from. Are we supposed to believe that she still hasn't trained her other Pokémon for Showcases after all this time? Of course, since the writers had already decided that Shauna was going to lose, it's possible that they just didn't bother to make her try anything new this time.

Nini's appearance was nice, even though I have the feeling that she is Serena's second rival who is destined to constantly lose to her. They already had Jessie for that role, so Nini doesn't really bring anything significant to these Showcases. I'm glad that she takes defeat better than the certain other two loser rivals from the previous region, though.

The Showcase itself was pretty interesting. The lack of battles still sucks, but I'm glad they're making the Performers work for their Princess Keys in other ways. The pop quiz was a cool idea. Most of the questions were easy enough, but I honestly didn't know the answer to the weight question and would have had to guess if someone had asked me. I probably would have guessed Ursaring, though, just because of its bigger size.
