891: A Tag Battle is a Friendship Battle! Eievui's First Time in a Fight!!
884: Tag Team Battle Inspiration!
It’s been quite a trip, but the Twerps have finally reached Anistar City. The first order of business while there is the Pokémon Showcase, which Serena wastes no time in preparing for. We begin with the end of the routine, which gets great applause from Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie. Serena lets her new catch know that she’ll be debuting her in the showcase that comes after the one in Anistar. Upon noting that the shy Twinklepaws is so comfortable around Bunnelby, out comes Chespin. After a scolding, Tierno arrives and greets the Twerps.
He comes showing off a bit of his new dance routine with his Blastoise. Something tells me this’ll strike a chord with Eevee, and it’ll be a foot-in-the-door to an actual battle. You could say it’s a…
The Twerps all take a good look at Blastoise…
…and Bonnie takes a good ride on Blastoise’s arm just as Shauna arrives with her new Ivysaur, who must be smoking something. Shauna notices Eevee and its timid nature, and fills Serena in on all kinds of performance possibilities based on whatever Eevee will evolve into.
This Dodger has his money on the Sailor Scout Pokémon itself.
It’s time for a break, so everyone heads inside to get some food. Ash is answered his question about Trevor’s absence by Tierno, who reveals that he’s on another photo hunt.
That’s our diet Todd Snap.
After that diversion, the topic goes to Ash’s upcoming gym battle. Tierno starts to tell about how badly he got destroyed by said gym’s leader, but Ash (who was totally on board for an explanation a moment ago) cuts him off and decides to go the no-spoiler route.
I’d say “this isn’t a TV show, Ash”, but that’d be too ironic to say.
Shauna uses this upbeat outburst to take another jab at Serena’s crush on him.
No need to deny it, Serena. He’d never notice, anyway.
After Eevee gets frightened once again by Chespin (and then by Ash speaking in his outdoor voice), an idea comes to the Twerps.
An introduction to the MVPs of each Twerp!
Somehow, it’ll backfire…
Going from right to left, Dedenne is the first to be…
Tail-swabbed.
Okay, that’ll work.
Frogadier next, then…
The mascot himself, and finally…
Chespin flubs once again.
Screwed over by low lung capacity. Should’ve remembered that it’s okay to breathe near your crush. Mull over that while we guess who that Pokémon is.
For all intents and purposes, that greeting exercise went well enough, which Serena compliments Eevee on. Despite Serena’s offer to call it off, Eevee decides to go through with performing. Remembering Aria’s advice, Serena decides on a tag battle. Ash is put on Tierno’s team and Serena is paired with Shauna. With two of the Pokémon combatants being dancers, this ought to be something else.
Pikachu begins with an Electro Ball, which is deflected by an Energy Ball from Ivysaur. Already off to an explosive start. Blastoise’s opening move is a Rapid Spin, which Eevee blocks with Protect. A Razor Leaf from Ivysaur is danced away from by Blastoise, while a Thunderbolt is blocked by Ivysaur, who goes to save Eevee (the intended target who tripped while trying to dodge). After that little slip-up, Eevee is back into action. Blastoise dances into action, but at a slower speed from the little Twinklepaws herself. Eevee’s dance-off with Blastoise leaves no distraction for a one-on-one between Pikachu and Ivysaur. Now each combatant has a target they’re going mano y mano with. Eevee dances all over Blastoise and lands a Swift attack on the big guy.
Eevee’s doing so well for a first battle. Too bad it gets called off in favor of practice for a new routine that apparently came to Serena upon seeing that Swift attack. Right when Eevee got an advantage…
Battle-happy Ash decides to keep his battle going, but with Tierno and Blastoise as the opponent. Meanwhile, Serena discusses her new performance plan with Eevee as Shauna overhears.
The next day, the Twerps and their two Kalos pals get an explosive awakening and realize they’re running out of time to go get Serena registered for the Anistar Showcase.
No time even to finish breakfast. And no time to waste on anything, really, since the next journey is on a strict timer. But for us at home, the journey is…
