881: Panpujin Fesutibaru! Sayonara Bakeccha!?
874: A Festival Trade! A Festival Farewell!
Bonnie is super excited to finally be at their new town, but then again, if Bonnie wasn't super excited about something, we'd think there was something wrong with her, so let's go with it.
The town is decorated, as if they're preparing for a festival.
The twerps head to the Pokémon center where they see THE HORRIBLE VISAGE OF WIGGLYTUFF GREET THEM INTO THE POKEMON CENTER. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH NURSE JOY YOU ABOMINATION, HAVE YOU KILLED THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN REGULATE YOUR EVIL ENER-
Oh, she was standing behind it. She informs the twerps that they've shown up just in time for the Gourgeist festival, which is nothing like Halloween, what-so-ever. In fact, it's...
Serena hooks the twerps up with costumes, Ash is a Snorlax, Chespin is Pikachu, Clemont is Watchog, Bonnie is Ludicolo (though, knowing Bonnie she probably already had that Ludicolo costume anyway) while Dedenne is a Corphish, and Serena sticks her ass out, and caresses her leg and says she's a Florges. Pikachu's a Psyduck, so it's unfortunate that Serena didn't give Ash some booty shorts and suspenders, so they'd match.
Some kids run up to the twerps and just hand them some candy - apparently it's customary to trade candy at the Gourgeist Festival, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
As the twerps walk off, they're being watched by Team Rocket, who are also in costume, including Meowth who brings back his classic Banette costume, but while Team Rocket are watching the twerps, Team rocket themselves are being watched, by a man and his horrible Swedish accent and his own Pumpkaboo, who seems to take a liking to Jesse's Pumpkaboo.
Before Team Rocket can set whatever plan they haven't planned into action, they're approached by a bunch of mysterious Pokémon, who no one can guess what they are despite them continually saying "Gourgeist", even James, who's dressed like one. The mysterious unknown Pokémon, continue approaching until a man instructs them to stop. He works for "The Count" and his bad accent and invites them to the castle, once he announces the "fine dinner" Team Rocket are all in. Can't turn down a good meal.
They chow down and are greeted by Count Pumpka and his tiny baby-sized Pumpkaboo, and reveals that Jesse's Pumpkaboo is very rare, being that it's "Super Sized". It floats up to it, and Count Pumpka reveals that his Pumpkaboo is a chubby chaser and wants to do the horizontal Monster Mash with Pumpkaboo. Also in turn revealing that Pumpkaboo has been a girl all this time, giving new meaning to that time I mentioned it's "headlights".
Jesse then has an idea, she convinces Count Pumpka that Pumpkaboo is being chased by bad guys who steal other people's Pokémon, and using Pumpkaboo as a bargaining chip, convinces the Count to stop them.
The twerps are moseying on through the town, until the Gou.. um, mysterious Pokémon surround them. Ash finally reveals what these strange new Pokémon are, "Gourgeist, the Pumpkin Pokémon, and the evolved form of Pumpkaboo. Gourgeist wander through town at the new moon, surrounding their prey with their arms which resemble hair. "
The Steward asks them to peacefully hand over Pikachu before he starts attacking. Clemont sends in Bunnelby to attack, even though Chespin was RIGHT THERE. The Gourgeist create enough dust that the man is able to steal Pikachu pretty easily.
Ash is furious... until Pikachu speaks up from behind him. But... he said he stole Pikachu, how can this be. That said, Chespin's gone.
The Steward prepares to hand over Pikachu until the Count reminds them that they agreed to give over Pumpkaboo. He wants their Pumpkaboo to marry Prince Pumpkaboo and become Princess Pumpkaboo, even though she's clearly not into this arrangement, making this a startlingly accurate depiction of how Princesses were given to Princes and had no agency in their future, and not that Disney shit where they wear pretty dresses and love it.
What a startling piece of social commentary for Pokémon.
Jesse's a bit uneasy about making the trade, until The Twerps show up. They demand Chespin back, confusing everyone until Bonnie points out that "Pikachu" was really Chespin.
Steward fucked up and he knows it. To make up for it, he has the Gourgeist block them off. The twerps get into another fight and this time it looks like they may have won, but Steward has a plan B, and captures the twerps in a giant cage that none of them saw coming, and therefore did not attempt to escape from, allowing Count to continue his business as suddenly a still inexplicable Pokémon Trading Machine shows up.
Jesse of course insists that after everything they've been through her and Pumpkaboo's friendship is worth more than anything and can not be traded away. During which Clemont attempts to use the horribly placed keypad inside the capture cage to aid in their escape.
To sweeten the pot Count Pumpka offers up his adorable Mawille for trade, but Jesse looks directly in it's face and tells Count Pumpka to go fuck himself, there's no way he's trading Pumpkaboo... that is, until he drops the bomb that Mawille can Mega Evolve.
Pumpkaboo however doesn't like that shit, and takes the Prince's hand and roars angrily at Jesse. Jesse and Pumpkaboo get into a heated argument... well, as heated as it can get when one of the participants can only say it's name, and the trade is on. They put their Pokéballs into the stupid trade machine, and Count releases his newest catch.
And as he does, Pumpkaboo starts glowing and evolves, into a Gourgeist.
The count, who owns several Gourgeist, lives in a town that celebrates Gorugeist, and who owns Gourgeist's pre-evolution assumes that Pumpkaboo must have evolved from the trade, because that's a thing he totally had no way of knowing would happen.
Prince Pumpkaboo however doesn't like his lover's new look, he likes big girls, but not THAT big, and tells the Count that he's completely over his whirlwind romance.
Jesse is fucking furious, she held up her end of the bargain, and this totally unexpected circumstance that no one could have possibly have known about happens and now they want to Givesy-backsy on the trade.
Jesse gets right up in the Prince's face and tells him what he's missing out on because of how great a Pokémon Gourgeist is, like that time she nursed Jesse back to health, or she remembered her birthday, when everyone else forgot.
Jesse then apologizes to Gourgeist and demands her back (poor Mawille. The count couldn't wait to be rid of it, and now it's stuck with him again), they re-trade and Jesse and Gourgeist have a loving embrace.
Team Rocket head off having had a meal and growing Jesse and Gourgeist's bond from the brink, which means it only has one way to go, and that's up, and we'll see that bond grow as the Journey is...

...
Wait...
I feel like I'm forgetting something...
OH RIGHT, the twerps have escaped their cage with it's inside easily accessible panel, and are demanding Chespin back, having completely forgot that they stole the WRONG Pokémon.
Inkay in it's Pikachu disguise flies in front of them, and Meowth pulls it back, as Bonnie strips him naked, revealing... HOLY SHIT, it's Team Rocket.
It all makes sense now according to Clemont, who's supposed to be the smart one of the group.
"Prepare for trouble, you aren't so smart!"
"And make it double, we've made it an art!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jesse!"
"And James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare for one confusing fight!"
"Meowth, that's right!"
"WOOOOBBBBUUUUUFFFFFET!"
Clemont reveals to the Count and his Steward that Team Rocket are "bad guys who steal other people's Pokémon", and they take him completely at his word, despite them having committed no crimes as far as they know, and very recently operating under the impression that the twerps are in fact the bad guys who steal other people's Pokémon, who are currently in the middle of a jail break, after following them so they could attack their esteemed guests.
Speaking of attack, it's time for the newly evolved Gourgeist to get it's time to shine. Jesse starts by running down the idea of Mega Evolution as actively perilous to building a deep bond with your Pokémon, even though it's usually presented the exact opposite way.
Anyway, she starts with Shadow Ball, that Pikachu dodges, followed by a Leech Seed that... Pikachu dodges. James and Inkay join in by attacking Bunnelby for some reason, who doges and hits back with a Double Slap, knocking Inkay into Chespin's cage breaking it.
With Chespin free, the twerps go into No Mercy mode, and blast off Team Rocket with a Flamethrower/Thunderbolt combo.
The Count apologizes to The Twerps, despite still having no evidence that the people he saw hunt and attack his rather amiable, if bizarre guests weren't completely lying. Or maybe he's just fearing for his life, and doesn't want to meet the same fate.
They prepare them "please don't kill us" bowls of soup in Gourgeist bowls, as the Gourgeist festival ends with a fireworks display, making it better than Halloween.
I used up my good outro, so I'll just remind you that after the festival is over the Journey is...
