I apologise for not having the Malamar episode guide up yet. Since I don't live in America, I have in no way access to Cartoon Network, so I have to wait a day or two for the episode to be uploaded on the Internet. The guide will most likely be up some time on Tuesday. After that, you can call dibs on any episode you want to write a guide for, and I can take care of the rest. I can handle just about every episode that has aired as of now.
I just realized that this Saturday on Cartoon Network instead of the next episode of X/Y they're going to air the Mega Evolution special.
Having only seen the English episodes to date, I have no idea what it's about (Maybe Mega Evolution) but apparently it doesn't feature the twerps, so I guess everyone has a bye-week.
The only thing I will give away is that this Special episode has nothing to do with the twerps and Team Rocket, except maybe for a brief mention of Ash, but that's about it. The protagonist is different.
The question is if we are going to write a guide for this episode or not. Most likely not; after all, it has no dodginess that needs to be highlighted.
I hope you aren't including the special with Virgil, the prologue to the 16th movie, in your line about pointless and stupid edits, because it doesn't have any.
Not that I'd want a guide for it because I don't give a fuck about Virgil, plus his role in it was boring anyway. There are rivals who are more deserving of one.
No, I was mainly referring to 4Kids' "gems".
Personally, I would like to see a Special episode that focuses on Paul; where he reaches Snowpoint City, and rechallenges Brandon, but he is an old and forgotten rival by now, just like the whole Diamond and Pearl series.
There are a lot of concepts in the Best Wishes series that were discarded; a proper conclusion of these two rivals, the connection between Pikachu and Zekrom, Iris' special ability, overall development of Cilan's character (both Iris and Cilan were just screen fillers for the most part, they only got a chance towards the end of the series, and their respective Special episodes), and most importantly: a shit-ton of fillers in the end that could very well be used to implement the aforementioned concepts.
It felt like the writers had almost given up on the show, and the whole thing was just to hold us off for something bigger: the XY series.

I didn't say the XY series doesn't have its flaws. It sure as hell does. Where to start from? Well... Serena, (since you mentioned her) has had a whopping ZERO DEVELOPMENT so far. Funnily enough, even her Fennekin has had more development than her (it even learned Flamethrower!). Second, what the fuck?! Where is this series going, anyway? What to make of it? I guess Bonnie doesn't count. She is designed to be the annoying/cute (you'll be the judge) character of the gang, like Misty's Togepi, Max, Dawn's Piplup and Iris' Axew before her. I thought for a while that she was about to get some development, when I saw her will to take care of a Pokemon for her whole journey (something Max never did), but I was wrong. And here we have a loaf of bread that is even more useless than the traffic lights in Grand Theft Auto. Now that I think about it, it maybe does have some use: to provide electricity for said traffic lights, and sell extra merchandise. Of course, Bonnie looking for a wife to take care of Clemont is a very good piece of comedy as of now, but, in reality, it is just a cliché that will get dull and boring over time (see Brock). Team Rocket are starting to become slightly more stale already. Also, after all these years, I can tell almost certainly that associating Ash with romance is a pretty bad idea. It will most likely get discarded towards the end of the series, just like many concepts before it (see Best Wishes). In conclusion: So much for the hype!
However, the XY series has some key features over Best Wishes, which make it a better series overall, at least in my opinion. First and most importantly: CLEMONT! Clemont is the only character so far (ever since the very first episode of the anime) to CONSTANTLY gain development. Cilan had GREAT potential, he could be an awesome character in his own right, but the writers wouldn't give him a chance. Second, Ash showing competence. If the protagonist starts off as a complete idiot right from the beginning of a saga without apparent reason, while he showed an excellent performance in the previous one, you know something is about to go wrong. Terribly wrong. In my opinion, they attempted to completely reboot the series, only to result in a complete failure. They did it once back in Hoenn, but, for some reason, the Advanced Generation series was not a complete failure, probably because of May, who actually got some development, and the Battle Frontier (I don't know). Third, switching focus between characters. In order to keep things interesting, in XY series, they constantly shift the focus between characters. One episode focusing on Ash, followed up by an episode focusing on Clemont and so on. I know that Serena, for example, is hardly any interesting, but the whole idea is amazing. You see quite frequently Action Hero Ash being swapped with Action Hero Clemont, and that is a huge plus for the XY series. As mentioned before, Iris and Cilan hardly had any notable screen time. And last, the XY series have WOOOOOOOOBBUFFET!!
ShiningStarlia: I remember her voicing a blind kid who was healed by Fat Buu back in Z. And that must've been like, almost 20 years ago I think!

Donkarasu: It's funny, despite Ribrianne getting so much hate (not me, I think she's an entertaining character and love the Magical Girl parody Toei added with her and her team mates) people were excited to hear that Veronica Taylor was voicing Ribrianne.
Dec 6, 2018 6:04:19 GMT -4
ShiningStarlia: In a way though. I personally have no problem with her and think her magical girl parody is hilarious and her transformation is meant to look hideous that even in-universe Vegeta couldn't bring himself to punch her when she tried to use Rollout on him.

ShiningStarlia: Though considering how much screentime she soaks up, I can see where most of the complaints come from. Then again, one can say the same thing about the Saiyans (U6 and U7) so who am I to complain? Haha.

Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: I think the forum's banner pic should be changed to Tsareena's butt closeup from today's episode. Pokemopolis thrives on easy-to-take-out-of-context stuff like that.

Donkarasu: So have been hearing Movie 21 has a heart warming story, it's not another movie that shoehorns in a Mythical and/or Legendary Pokémon for the sake of views, but rather their use in the plot is respectable, all characters get to do something notable, etc.
Dec 9, 2018 9:41:38 GMT -4
Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: While that's true, it did still default to the whole "mythical/legendary hates humans until it meets Ash and friends" formula. Some parts of the old formula just had to stick around.

Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: Everything else was fresh and well-done, though. And though I trash the music (the only weak point of the movie, and boy is it an Achilles' Heel; that is except for the dub's ending song), the movie itself is spectacular.
Dec 10, 2018 21:54:07 GMT -4
Donkarasu: Actual so-called-music that deserves to be called "noise" is whatever 4kids used in their dub for One Piece. Music you don't like, but can still clearly hear the instruments, should be called "bad music", calling it "noise" is just a petty insult.
Dec 14, 2018 12:09:50 GMT -4
Donkarasu: There were no instruments used for the 4kids' One Piece dub music, it was all synthesizers.
Dec 14, 2018 12:13:09 GMT -4
Donkarasu: Also that dub of that thing which when I showed Ryu the Japanese verison of long ago he said it was fine, but when I brought it up again, Ryu got all aggressive and started saying the original version was bad, despite the dub having all the flaws.
Dec 14, 2018 12:17:09 GMT -4
Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: You never showed me that thing any more than once. And also, you showed me it in a failed attempt to make me like something about the JP version.
Dec 14, 2018 12:29:39 GMT -4
Donkarasu: Yes I did actually, I showed it to you to show you that when the narrator started singing it wasn't like in Brother Bear, like you thought (when the song was put over one character explaining something to another) but rather she was singing with them.
Dec 14, 2018 18:16:26 GMT -4
Donkarasu: Only you believe it was to get you to like the original, while I was just correcting your misinformation.
Dec 14, 2018 18:18:09 GMT -4
Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: That first time was just a correction (and back then, the JP version hadn't fully earned my utter abhorrence). The second time was an attempt to sway me.
Dec 14, 2018 19:35:55 GMT -4
Donkarasu: No it wasn't, it was me having to get this thing out of my mind and so the best way was to let it out and share my thoughts with others. I mean by that logic, I guess you telling me that Popplio says "Arwoo" and Ashimari doesn't is you forcing me to like
Dec 15, 2018 6:14:45 GMT -4
Donkarasu: the dub voice and sway me away from the Japanese one, despite the fact that Popplio only goes "Pop! Pop!" and I have listen to Ashimari's voice more than enough to fully confirm it says what I said it does. But don't worry, I won't make that assumption.
Dec 15, 2018 6:26:40 GMT -4
Donkarasu: Oh and by the way, I do like the dub voice, but for a different reason from why I like the Japanese one.
Dec 15, 2018 6:30:30 GMT -4
ShiningStarlia: All in all that was a good two parter: wish it lasted longer! And as for Dragonball Super, goodness it was great hearing Veronica Taylor again. She used bits of her May voice in the most recent dub episode.
Dec 16, 2018 12:35:04 GMT -4
Ryu Taylor, Dub Lover: HUGE dub-related news: Matori's dub name (or rather, only name since the dub kept her name as Matori) has finally been said in a dub episode.
