Dewpider Ascending
Oh my God, narrator, shut up shut up SHUT UP! You're channeling that bitch who ruined the JP version of Pikachu's Rescue Adventure (oh, and fuck Dogasu for defending that narration, that human intelligence-disrespecting motherfucker).
Oh, look, another shot that can look nasty out of context that got kept in the dub. Yeah, you dumbasses ready to admit that you were wrong to characterize TPCi as oversensitive content-policing cowards? Now then, if you thought I was going to join you all and complain about the pronunciation of Dewpider's name...
this is a rare time you'd be right. It really is stupid and makes no sense considering what real-world creature Dewpider is based on. Also, they totally did it to make a pun on the title of the Wachowskis' worst movie ever.
But I digress. It's nice to have an episode whose opening 10 minutes were purely Pokemon-focused. But damn it all, it would've been so much better without narration. First the Pikachu shorts except the dub of Pikachu's Rescue Adventure keep letting narration intrude, now the TV show, too?
The forest scene's music and the montage of Dewpider going around town to try to find a pond were the highlights of the episode's soundtrack. Also, is it just me, or did the dub bring back that awesome Surskit battle theme from the Viola gym battle episode? But what was with the reuses of the Wedding March (especially that second usage over a battle)? If the episode must have a romance theme, why not a remix of some other stock romance theme, like that one that tends to play in every sitcom ever? I know the JP version made that mistake, so it's a shame the dub repeated it.
So close, yet so far. So much telling when there should've been showing. Damn it all to Hell.

I really don't get why TPCI replaced the wedding march with... the wedding march.
There is only a slight difference between OLM's version and TPCI's version anyway.

This isn't very "Pokemon"-y, but did you know that a robot master in Mega Man 11,Block Man, has the same English VA as Kiawe?

Sours for the Sweet!
We've got a winner for the most boring and completely unnecessary Ultra Adventures episode here. I mean, WOW; I have literally NOTHING to say about it, it was THAT boring.

Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?
I guess Nanu was once on the wrong side of the law. Either that or Giovanni was once on the right side. Regardless, that was a nice infodump.
That was a nice cameo TR's DP selves made being decoys to distract Bewear.
Always good to see my top Poison boy having a starring role, even if it's an antagonistic one. He's always adorably mischievous. Though it was a surprise to see him be capable of possession.
Nanu and Acerola are perfectly cast. They sound just like how I thought they would when I first played the game.
I don't know what piece of JP music that was that got kept, but it sounded like trash. As usual, the dub music, though at its usual good standard with nothing exceptional, shines through.
It's good to be back to having good episodes.

Acerola sounded mighty familiar... How puzzling.

Ripping off when Dogasu of Dogasu's Backpack jokingly said on his Twitter that their Best Wishes self made a cameo appearance, I see...

Ripping off when Dogasu of Dogasu's Backpack jokingly said on his Twitter that their Best Wishes self made a cameo appearance, I see... I just did for his failure of a joke what TPCi does to the show: improve it.
Seriously though, DP TR is the absolute worst the characters have been. They're so bad they're (along with Ambipom) the death of that saga. That applies to all languages the show is broadcast in (especially the JP version; so much for that "they're so much better in Japanese!!!!!" platitude weeaboos spam nearly as often as their little flattery spiel on the JP music).

I still think they're even worse in the dub with TPCI having Jessie constantly threaten both James and Meowth.
Plus TPCI also loses points in the Diamond & Pearl series for still making Paul a jerk during the Sinnoh League.

I think Team Rocket have slowly stopped by funny until the SM series started. The more expressive art style and emotional writing did them wonders. In terms of dubbing, I can't really take sides. Though Dub Jessie sounds a bit to casual at times...

Tough Guy Trials!
Sometimes Nanu reminds me of TFS Nail (before Namek was invaded), and I love it.
Okay, the image of a cop holding a box that appears to say LSD on it is hilarious.
Nice to see even Rotomdex's film can't get a ghost in a picture. Now that I think about it, can Ghost-type Pokemon be summoned by saying their name three or five times?
That was quite a beating Lycanroc suffered. While I wish Lycanroc's anger issues had been built up better, I look forward to seeing how it'll be dealt with.
You know, what is that people like to say as part of their little spiel about how the JP version is better than the dub? That is, apart from the music and acting stuff? Ah yes, the fact that the JP version never gets a Pokemon fact wrong. Yeah, bullshit. It got the order of Krookodile's types wrong. Some expert. And it's great to see TPCi fix that gaffe. Yet another thing to gladly rub in the TPCi hatedom's stupid face.
The music was really really good when Nanu lectured Ash. Along with the acting, that scene excellently showed Ash's frustration. I also like the music and acting of the scene toward the end when Ash and Lycanroc had that little talk.
This was a good one and it looks like an interesting arc is starting.
But really guys, lay off the LSD.

Anyway...
Some Kind of Laziness!
I see Ash still has the ability to climb at the speed of JP cartoon character.
Rowlet finally got a new move. I hope there'll come good chances for him to use it since he's been doing nothing but cameos lately.
Yeah, Lycanroc's dirt problem came out of nowhere and disappeared in just as contrived and suddenly a manner. At least the battle with Tapu Bulu was good and Lycanroc also got a new move out of it.
Tapu Bulu's theme is as laid-back as he is, and I love it. Also great to hear Rowlet's theme come back and gain a new mix for when he learned Razor Leaf. And though the montage of Lycanroc's Rockruff days had a reused cue, there couldn't have been a better pick than what was used. Same for the battle cues. This was one of the nicest-scored episodes in a while.
This disappointed as a character development episode, but succeeded as a training episode.

Dusk Lycanroc has an intense fury lurking outside it's tame exterior. Ash's Lycanroc was no different. He was proud of his new form and when he got dirty, his pride would be wounded and invoke that fury. It took calming words and reassurance from his trainer to control and quell his rage. At least, that's how I interpreted it.
